Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGILBERT EARL FAREBROTHER February 3, 1938 - February 6, 2018 Suddenly and unexpectedly, on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, Gilbert Farebrother of Stonewall passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his mother Nellie, father Percy, sisters-in-law, Marie and JoAnne, brother-in-law Phil, and five nieces and nephews. He leaves to treasure his memory his wife of 58 and a half years, Arlene, son Blayne, daughter-in-law Christine, six grandchildren, Leigh, Jaron, Ryan, David (Burgundy), Colin, and Sarah, as well as two great-grandchildren, Colleen and Jayce. He is also survived by four brothers, Percy, Ray (Ruth), Garth (Brenda) and Duane, sisters-in-law, Marlis, Karen (Maurice), Phyllis (Neven) and Barb, and brothers-in-law, Keith (Karen) and Chris, special people: Rose, Jaqueline, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. Gilbert was born in Norquay, Saskatchewan, on the family farm. He attended school under the tutelage of his father in a country school. After leaving school, he joined his older brother Percy in the oil fields, working on the drilling rigs. He met and married Arlene Knutson in 1959. He later left the oil fields and entered the Mining and Exploration Industry which took him around the globe, making many good and lifelong friends along the way. Gilbert and Arlene moved to Stonewall, Manitoba in 2002 where Gilbert spent his retirement years gardening, curling, golfing, and playing cribbage. Family was most important to Gilbert and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He became interested in everything they were doing from their study of music, fixing dirt bikes, racing at the track, and camping. Special thanks to the doctors and staff, and especially Shelley in the ICU, at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held in Stonewall at the Heritage Arts Centre on Saturday, February 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
