Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES MARSHALL GILLIES Dr. James Marshall Gillies peacefully passed away with family by his side at Chartwell Resthaven, in Aurora, ON, on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 94 years of age. James was born in Glasgow, Scotland on August 7, 1923 to James and Maud (nee Rodway). Beloved husband of late Marjorie Jane (nee Kuwiz). Loving father of Jane (Keith) Hunt of Beeton, ON and James (Cheryl) Gillies of Calgary, AB. Proud Grandpa of Justin (Anna), Alison (Adam) and Andrew (Michelle) Hunt; Graydon and Holly Gillies. Great-Grandpa of Joseph and Abigail Hunt and Riley Skelly. James was predeceased by sisters, Moira Brodie and Joan Gillies, and will be remembered by sister Maude Reid of Victoria, BC. James attended Medical school in Glasgow attaining his M.D. in 1947. He then served as a Captain in the British Army Medical Corp for two years stationed in Berlin, returning to Glasgow to take specialist training in radiotherapy. In 1952 James immigrated to Winnipeg, MB and became board certified in radiation therapy in 1954. He remained with the Manitoba Cancer Foundation at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for 35 years, until retiring to Kelowna, BC in 1986. In Kelowna, James devoted his time and energy to the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. His many achievements included attaining degree granting status for Okanagan College as well as establishing a cancer treatment centre, located in Kelowna. In 1998, James and Marjorie relocated to White Rock, BC where he remained very active with the Rotary Club until late 2015 when he moved to Beeton, ON to live with family. A celebration of James' life will be held at a later date. In James' memory, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, www.cancer.ca
