Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN EVELYN RALSTON January 26, 1922 - February 14, 2018 After a fulsome 96 years, Evelyn was released from life on February 14, 2018. Known by her family simply as 'Bub' (a nickname bestowed from her father), Evelyn was a strong individual who worked very hard to maintain her independence during her final years. In addition to the loving support of her family, Evelyn was immensely thankful for the professional support she received from her Family Practitioner, Pharmaceutical and Home Care teams, and the entire Devonshire House II staff, who all worked together in helping her to succeed in her goal. Evelyn was the second oldest child of 10 (five girls and five boys) of her predeceased parents, Alice and David Cook. She was a very responsible and supportive daughter, regularly charged with caring for her younger siblings. Her siblings and extended family were very close and enjoyed many raucous gatherings and some combined travel. Evelyn married the love of her life George in 1941 and enjoyed 57 years together. Finding light and hope during the dark days of the Second World War, Evelyn and George welcomed their firstborn Ronald while George served his country. Shortly after his return, they completed their family, and welcomed their daughter Dianne into the fold. In addition to raising two children, Evelyn was a great community volunteer and contributed as a column writer for the Transcona Newspaper, capturing the Dugald News and keeping up with Dugald's historical events. Evelyn was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Rebecca's Service Organization, Transcona Memorial United Church and Transcona Legion #7. Her soprano voice was enjoyed by many whether she sang at church, weddings or funerals. She was very proud to be a member of the Transcona Golf Club and acted as its President for many years. She was especially proud of the golf course grounds improvements that took place during her tenure. She loved sports, especially golf, curling and Canadian football (Go Bombers!) and keeping updated with world and political news. Evelyn was also predeceased by her loving husband, George, daughter-in-law, Jennette Ralston, sister, Edna Laurie, brothers, Raymond, Carl, Robert and Byron Cook; brothers-in-law Francis Laurie, Lawrence Laurie and Arthur Thomsen; and sisters-in-law Jo Anne Cook and Hilda Cook. Left to cherish her life are her children, Ronald Ralston and Dianne McCubbin (Ken); beloved grandchildren Brian and Cory Ralston (Michaela); Kevin McCubbin (Colleen) and Rhonda Roth (Dylan), great-grandchildren, Brander and Everley Ralston, Stephanie McCubbin, Jack and Katie Roth; siblings, Marion Laurie, Margaret Thomsen, Audrey Roberts (Don) and Nowlan Cook (Joanie), sisters-in-law, Evon Cook, Ruth Cook, Gladys Cook and Lee Cook, and several nieces and nephews. Deep appreciation is extended to Dr. D. Caners and Units N3E and N1N at the Concordia Hospital for their professionalism and compassion. Thanks also to her Home Care team. A private recognition of her life and interment will be held at a later date.
