JOSEPHINE ERNESTINE FENNY Josephine (Ernestine) Fenny, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the age of 98 years. A native of Winnipeg, Ernestine graduated from St. Mary's Academy and College (leading to a degree granted by the University of Manitoba) with a B.A., and went on to earn an M.A. and B.Ed. In her career with the Winnipeg School Division she achieved the positions of Teacher, Vice-Principal, Principal and Deputy Assistant Superintendent. She loved her career and often shared tales with her students and peers. In her own words, "Although I never dreamed of it throughout the years, I discovered that being a school principal was the career for me. It is with gratitude and fondness I remember the children I taught and the teachers I met along the way." Ernestine was a world traveller, visiting nearly every continent, she often told stories of her incredible travels and was always looking for her next adventure. After retirement she spent years as a volunteer at the Misericordia Health Centre, avidly played (and even taught) bridge, and always enjoyed a good novel. She is predeceased by her parents Gaston and Josephine de Goesbriand; her daughter Alixe MacRae; and cousin and close friend Marie de Goesbriand. Ernestine will be lovingly remembered by her grandson James MacRae (Sarah); and great-grandchildren Megan and Nathaniel; cousin Frank (Leanne) Roy; as well as her friends Arlene McLeod, Geraldine and Douglas Raymond; and Laurine Beeston. A service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, with Fr. Frank Obrigewitsch officiating.
