Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRITA ALINE WALDVOGEL (nee GODARD) Peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018, with her husband and daughter at her side, Rita passed away following a battle with cancer, at the Portage General Hospital, at the age of 80 years. Rita was predeceased by her parents George and Rosa Godard, and one brother Armand. She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Glenn and their three children: Gregg (Tracy) Waldvogel, Kim (Mel) Chizawsky, and Blair (Irene) Waldvogel. Rita was very fond of her six grandsons - Tanner, Zack, Derek, Alex, Jack and Leo - and her great-granddaughter Collins. Rita was a loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Donna Lowry (Ron) and three nieces - Brenda, Patti (Brian) and Pam (Eric) - as well as other extended family members and her many friends. Rita was born July 12, 1937 in Bruxelles, Manitoba; moving to Holland at an early age. After completing high school in Holland, Rita worked for the CIBC there, later transferring to Winnipeg with the bank. While living and working in Winnipeg, she met her husband Glenn and they were married in 1961. They moved several times to banking locations within Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Rita was always active in each community; quickly fitting in and taking part in many community organizations and events. Rita enjoyed all sports and was particularly active in ball, golf and curling; being an active member of the Portage Ladies Golf and Curling clubs. She was a life member of the Kinettes, and was also an active member of the Good Shepherd Parish in Portage. Rita very much enjoyed going to her children's and grandchildren's activities and never missed an event if she was available. She also enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, crafts, and baking - her favourite was baking buns. At Rita's request, her remains were cremated. Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Parish in Portage la Prairie, with Father Gerald Langevin officiating. Immediate family will attend interment at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens before the service. A luncheon will be offered to family and friends in the church hall directly following the service; all are welcome. Special thank you to the Portage home care staff and hospital staff for their wonderful care during Rita's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rita's memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8 or a charity of your choice. A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. 204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
