ALBERT LITZ Surrounded by his family, Albert Litz went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital. Albert is survived by his loving wife Helen of 66 years, daughter Lori Litz Shand (Doug), son Conrad Litz (Barb), daughter-in-law Lois Litz, and grandchildren, Sara, Katrina, Rachel and Cassandra. Albert was predeceased by his son Reg in 2013. Born to Robert and Hulda Litz (Kraning) on October 6, 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Albert was the 10th of 11 children. He was predeceased by his brothers, Rudolph, Walter, August, Richard, Fred, Ronald, Bill and Gordon, and sisters, Alice and Velma. Growing up in Winnipeg in the 1930s, early in his life he exhibited a definitive aptitude for entrepreneurial business. His early childhood ventures and interests included selling hankies and newspapers in the North End as well as being a candle lighter in the local synagogue. With his father Robert starting R. Litz & Sons at the turn of the century, Albert fit right into the busy life of a family business. As he worked hard for his family business, the Lord's blessing was upon the family. Early in his teens Albert committed his life to the Lord Jesus and was baptized. He met Helen in 1951, they became engaged that spring and married August 25 at North End Mennonite Brethren Church. In the 1950s, Albert went out on his own to found Prairie Excavating and Open Market, a retail store. Eventually all his business enterprises led to real estate development and his own property development company, A. Litz Construction Ltd. When not working, Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing, his trailering adventures with his family, travelling to many parts of the world, and later in life living in his condo at Seapark in White Rock, British Columbia. Always drawn to water, he enjoyed sitting for hours with his King James Bible overlooking the ocean contemplating eternity. He also really enjoyed driving to Minneapolis with his young family as well as later in life driving through the Rocky Mountains on his way to Vancouver and California where he loved visiting his siblings and relatives. Dad we miss you greatly and you will be with us forever in our hearts until we meet again. John 3:16 was Dad's favourite Bible verse. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Highway, with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. If friends desire, donations can be made to Salvation Army and or Union Gospel Mission. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital for their comfort and care.
