MARGARETTA (RITA) CLAY Sadly, Rita passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. She was born January 7, 1931 in Glasgow, Scotland. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and brother Dave. Mom is fondly remembered by her son Frank (Cynthia), grandchildren, Christopher (Cindy) and Heather and great-grandchildren, Jack and Noah, and brother Donald (Glennis). Rita and family emigrated from Scotland to start a new life in Winnipeg in a cold and blustery January in 1967. Mom embraced life in Canada with great enthusiasm as she did with all her endeavors. 50 years in this country and her brogue (accent) was as thick as ever. She worked hard in many jobs and spent many years as head of housekeeping at the International Inn. After retiring, Rita, Frank and dog Rocky settled in their cottage at Laurentia Beach, St. Laurent on Lake Manitoba. They truly enjoyed life at the lake and made very many dear friends. Rita was passionate about her garden and always feeding the birds or any other wildlife that came on their property. Mom was an avid and very talented knitter. Mittens, scarves, dickies and washcloths were her specialty and have been enjoyed by many people. She was a strong and vibrant lady, fiercely loyal and truly compassionate for everyone she knew. She was always very generous and grateful for what life had for her. Even throughout her illnesses, she never failed to express her gratitude for all her caregivers, often giving gifts to those she thought so much of. Mom took great pride in her family. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother (GG). Never failed to miss a birthday, anniversary or Christmas with a card and something tucked into it. Rita loved people and had an infectious spirit that left a lasting impression with everyone she knew. She truly embraced life with enthusiasm. Our world is suddenly too quiet. Mom will be forever in our hearts. A family service will be held at a later date. Among the many charities that Rita supported, the Humane Society was her favourite.

You were a great neighbor Rita. Enjoyed our chats at Laurent North Beach, at the lake, and your garden, and having a cold beer with you and Frank. Even enjoyed mowing your lawn. How you loved your Bingo nights! Hopefully, I will meet you and Frank again someday. Will miss you both....Denis Letain - Posted by: Denis Letain (Friend) on: Mar 04, 2018

Much sympathy to Rita's family. She was one of the sweetest person I knew, and will always treasure her dish cloths. Hugs and prayers to your family. - Posted by: Marlene Bruce (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2018
