Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHERESE CECILE LAVOIE January 11, 1924 - February 20, 2018 Born January 11, 1924 on a farm just a short sleigh ride from Dunrea, Manitoba, Thérèse Légaré was raised in a devout family that loved to laugh and sing. In 1946 she married her "sailor boy" Athanase Lavoie and moved into the village where she raised her family with much joy and affection. Mom loved to sing and was blessed with a beautiful voice. A determined woman, she started singing lessons at 50 years of age when the family moved to Winnipeg. She went on to sing with many choirs as well as the chorus of the Manitoba Opera for a few of their productions. What a pleasure to see the little farm girl from Dunrea on stage at the Centennial Concert Hall in full Egyptian costume and make-up. Her special moment was singing the "Ave Maria" in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. In her 70s, she was challenged by Alzheimer's but never lost her happy disposition and her ability to laugh with family and friends. (She laughed mostly at the mention of Dad's cooking skills. He was known to somehow find a way to burn Corn Flakes and milk.) Mom brought sunshine and happiness to her family and all those that surrounded her. For 94 years she somehow made life look easy. She will be remembered with much love by her children, Roland, Marcelle, Denis and Daniel as well as by her brothers, Fernand and Camille. A special thank you to the staff of Actionmatguerite (St. Boniface) for the care, kindness and love they offered our mother every day. Funeral masse will be held at 10:30 a.m. (eulogy 10:15 a.m.) on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the St. Boniface Cathedral, 190 avenue de la Cathédrale in St. Boniface.

Typed by Eveline's daughter while talking with Eveline: Therese was a dear friend. She supported me through years of having children while running for city council and school board. Athanase and Therese are very special and beautiful, loving, kind and giving people. - Posted by: EVELINE REESE (Friend) on: Nov 30, 2020

We wish to express our condolences to all of your families on the loss of this lovely lady, I have wonderful childhood memories of visits with Uncle Thanase and Tante Terry and all the Lavoies. She always had a beautiful smile and was the picture of graciousness, even after being challenged with Alzheimer's. May thoughts of the joyful reunion above bring you comfort. I will always recall my MaTante Therese with a smile on her face and a quick laugh. She had a twinkle in her eye whenever approached, always welcoming and reassuring. I always marveled at her proud countenance, though she was thoroughly unpretentious. Her love of family, immediate and beyond was clear and demonstrated through her expressed interest in hearing about all things great or small. She will be missed but thought of with love in my heart always! May the music and laughter continue, now that you have re-joined your sailor boy from Dunrea! - Posted by: Marie Lavoie (Niece) on: Feb 26, 2018

- Posted by: Rick Lavoie (Nephew) on: Feb 24, 2018

We are sorry to hear of the passing of dear Tante Thérèse. She was a beautiful spirit full of love and compassion. We will never forgot her generosity stepping in and helping us with our newborn first child. She heard the baby crying in the background when she called to see how we were doing and she insisted on coming over immediately to help out. She came to our rescue every night for a week! We were blessed to have her in our lives. Our deepest condolences to her loved ones...we share in their loss. - Posted by: Eileen and Denis Lavoie (Nephew) on: Feb 24, 2018
