She lived a life dedicated to the service of others. "Francie" was the school secretary at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate, her dream job! She loved working there which was evidenced by the many friendships with both the staff and students. Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I offer my deepest condolences to your family. I first met "Mrs. Glacken" when I moved into the house across her backlane at age 4. She was so sweet and like a second grandma to me. So many wonderful memories of she and Peter opening up their "awesome pool" to us neighbourhood kids and families. Frances, Peter and their cat, Barney were so special to me. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Kyla Birnie (Former neighbour) on: Apr 15, 2018

  • My most sincere condolences on the passing of your mom, Bob. My husband worked well with Francie at Murdoch. While she described working there as her dream job, believe me, Bob thought of her as his dream secretary and valued advisor. Please know she was loved at Murdoch, and her memory is touching a lot of hearts now. - Posted by: Sheilah Land (Bob Land's wife) on: Mar 25, 2018

  • So sorry for your loss, and sorry we missed the memorial service. Whether we knew her as Bob's Mom, or our secretary at Murdoch, or a member of TMUC, she was always a warm and gracious lady who was happy to meet you, and you always felt better after spending time with her. Truly an angel. It was a blessing to know her. - Posted by: Doug (and Don) Jentsch (friend) on: Mar 12, 2018

  • So sad to hear of Frances's passing. Will always remember the great memories at the Transcona home, gatherings, birthdays and pool parties. Years later on a visit to Winnipeg my wife Karin also got to meet my second mother in Transcona. Years later again while visiting Hawaii, my wife Karin and my son Myles were fortunate enough to meet Erin and Francie for dinner. Over the years Francie and the whole Glacken clan has touched my immediate family in many different ways. We will always remember the caring and genuine times we all experienced on behalf of Francie when visiting. She will be missed by many but forgotten by none. • We will always remember Frances for her quick smile and willingness to help out. I remember the many times my mom would do things with Frances through the Transcona Rebecca Lodge or the United Church or marching in the many Hi Neighbour parades together. My sisters, Cathie and Heather and myself wish to send our sincere condolences to the entire family. It was a pleasure to know you Frances! - Posted by: Debbie McLeod (Friend) on: Mar 05, 2018

  • My sincere sympathy to Francie's family, a wonderful lady and long time friend. I grew up across Harvard Avenue from Francie. I was five years younger and when she decided she was too old to have a doll carriage she gave it to me, how happy she made me! I have so many happy memories of those years. Later we found we had both married men from Hudson Bay Junction. Over the years we have managed to keep in touch, until she left her condo. I phoned periodically and we had great chats, we came to the conclusion that we were the last of the Harvard Avenue Kids! She was one of a kind and I loved her.
