Date of Passing: Feb 24, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALAN GORDON SUMMERTON Alan Gordon Summerton, aged 74, of Winnipeg, MB passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2018. There will be a celebration of his life conducted at the Bord-Aire Community Centre, 471 Hampton Street, on March 9 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome. Alan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 7, 1943. In his teenage years, Alan was a motorcycle enthusiast. He married Louella Summerton (Main) on July 16, 1966 (lucky him), and his love for riding continued well into the marriage. He began his career as a firefighter on January 1, 1968 and retired at the rank of Captain on August 12, 2001. Alan enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and camping. He was an avid bodybuilder and was spotted bench pressing 250 pounds just two days before his passing (yes, he was almost 75!). Alan is survived by his wife Louella, and their two children Ryan and Richard, who will deeply miss him, along with his two daughters-in-law Karrie and Marielle. Alan has four grandchildren, Aiden, Jamison, Alexis and Dannalee. Alan very much enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, and included them in his many outdoor activities. Alan was predeceased by his parents Harold and Ethel Summerton, and his two older brothers Mac and Doug. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Firefighters' Burn Fund Inc., PO Box 45001 RPO Kildonan Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2C 5C7.

We were saddened to hear of Al's sudden passing. He was a great guy with humour and class, and a wonderful longtime friend. We had many great times, summer camping, out for brunch, partying on birthdays and milestones, or just hanging out. RIP old friend! And to you, Lou and Family, we are thinking of you in your heartbreak and sorrow. We wish you all strength and love. Our prayers go out to you at this time! I am so sorry to hear of Al's sudden passing. I had come to value him as a true friend of the family and sincerely appreciate the many kindnesses he extended to my Mom & Dad. Dad spoke highly of him on multiple occasions, and as got to know Al I came to see why. It is so hard to accept and deal with someone's passing when they go from hale and hearty to no longer with us so quickly and unexpectedly, because we don't see it coming and therefore can't prepare ourselves for it emotionally. However, having said that, when my time on this Earth comes to an end, that is how I'd like to go. - Posted by: Terry Spearman & family (Family friend) on: Mar 01, 2018

Dear Lou and family, I am so sad to hear about Al's passing. I have so many fond memories of you and Al since we met from the great Fire Hall No. 16. How I wish we could have those times again. Al, Mercil, Stan and many other good firefighters who have passed away since the good old days of No. 16 are surely keeping an eye over all of us to keep us safe and warm. Take care Lou, my heart and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. Till we meet again, Sandra Solomon - Posted by: Sandra Solomon (Friend) on: Feb 28, 2018
