DORIS ANN MCMAHON It is with both sorrow and celebration that we announce the passing of Doris Ann McMahon (nee Okrainec), peacefully, at her home in St. Andrews, MB, on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Born in 1933, Doris was raised on a farm in Brightstone, MB and later lived and raised a family in Winnipeg until she relocated to St. Andrews in 1979. Doris was an accomplished artist who created scores of beautiful paintings over more than 40 years. She was best known for her paintings of vivid landscapes and regal animals. She also loved crafts; she was especially fond of knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitch and also created many lovely needlepoint pieces. An avid gardener, Doris found great pleasure in nurturing all living things. She was a tremendous animal lover who had several dogs over the years, including her endeared Bichon Frise "Molly." Most of all, Doris loved her family. She is survived by her beloved sons, Jack (Sheryl) and Jim McMahon, her brother Ken Okrainec (Shirley), her grandchildren Michelle (Kris) Gould and Mike McMahon, and great-grandchildren Addison and Lauren Gould. She also leaves behind her uncle Nicholas "Mickey" Malinosky, cousin Adeline, many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and dear friends Donna and Dawn. Doris was predeceased by her parents Mike and Katherine "Kay" Okrainec, sister Florence and brother Don, and by spouse Harold. Doris had a strong inspirational spirit, a contagious smile, and a gentle and caring heart that touched everyone she met. By her bedside was this passage: "Of great consequence is the immense power of kindness in bringing out the good points of the character of others." Her kind and giving soul will be in our hearts forever.

  • I did not know of Doris’s passing until today Oct 11, 2020. She turned up in my dreams last night so I decided to check. I’m sincerely sorry for your loss of your mother and grand mother. For the brief moment I knew her she left a lasting positive impression on my life. She was a force of Love not easily blown over. I shall miss her more now. Love to you all. • I am so very sorry for the loss of this dear and talented lady. I first met Doris just a few years ago and she welcomed me most graciously into her lovely, immaculately kept home, with her arms wide open, and a smile so wide and beaming that I found it to be infectious. I was quickly drawn to Doris on two accounts: firstly to her keen, yet lackadaisical, sense of humor and secondly to her undeniable gift of artistry and was deeply touched when a very short time after meeting her I received a surprise in the mail - a painting that she had crafted for me, after I had expressed to her how much I was drawn to her "Moonlight Loons." Rest in Peace, Doris. - Posted by: Shirley Beznoski (Friend) on: Mar 08, 2018
