LILY ZAZELENCHUK Peacefully on February 5, 2018, Lily left this earth to join her husband. Born in 1921 on the family homestead in rural Saskatchewan, Lily was the daughter of Steve Michaluk and his beloved wife Kalyna (neé Hominuk), both of whom emigrated from Ukraine at the turn of the century. As an adult, Lily taught in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Saskatchewan. She was much loved by her students and in one case the relationship became one of mother and daughter in all but name. Sadly, her foster daughter Eleanor predeceased Lily in 2016. In 1944 Lily met the love of her life, Metro. They married in 1948 and had one son and 58 happy years together. Lily loved her home and family and enjoyed being a homemaker. She was happiest in her garden. Fiercely proud of her pioneer and Ukrainian heritage, Lily taught her granddaughter the art of Ukrainian Easter eggs at which she was very adept. In accordance with Lily's wishes, a private service has been held. Left to mourn Lily are younger sister Rose Petras and family, son Gene and his wife Maria, and granddaughter Kalyna. Memory Eternal
