SALLY BAKER (nee HANDELMAN) January 21, 1915 - January 16, 2018 Peacefully, Sally Baker passed away at the Simkin Centre, just five days short of her 103rd birthday. She was born in Winnipeg, where she lived her entire life. A devoted wife and mother, she spent her married years maintaining a comfortable home for her family, celebrating all the Jewish traditions. She was a cook par excellence, and a talented seamstress, sewing many lovely garments for herself and her daughter. Sally had a beautiful singing voice, and was a dedicated member of the Jewish Women's Musical Club. To that end she was a great support to Scott, encouraging him in all his musical endeavours. She was always active, taking yoga classes, tai chi, and many other forms of exercise. An avid mah jong player, her children spent many evenings listening to the clicking of tiles and "4 dot 3 bam". Predeceased by her husband Hymie, in 1977, her parents Fanny and Harry Handelman, her grandchildren Nancy, David (Jennifer Lowe), Jeremy (Kayla Feldman), and three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Olivia and Zachary. Funeral services were officiated by Bill Weissmann at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Friday, January 19, with interment at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Scott Baker, Nancy, David and Jeremy Prober, Adam Levene, and Ron Worb. The family would like to thank the staff on Weinberg 3 at the Simkin Centre for their kindness and caring. A special thanks to Marife Ilagan, Eufemia Ilagan, Gemma Tiglao, and Edna Maula for their devotion to our mother. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Sally, you are missed.
