DANIEL FABIEN LEONHARDT It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, Daniel Fabien Leonhardt, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Left to survive Daniel are his father, Alain; sister Michele (Gabe); niece Avery; nephews, Nolan and Julien; as well as extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Rosetta. Growing up in Charleswood, Dan attended River West Park, Westdale and Oak Park schools. His early jobs were in various restaurants and his charming personality made him a natural in the service industry. Dan was a genius with technology though and made that his career, getting his first job out of college with the Province of Manitoba, then moving to Ottawa for a few years to work for the Bank of Canada before being headhunted back to Winnipeg. He was the family IT guy and would often get the "can you please tell me how to fix my Wi-Fi?" calls, which of course he took without hesitation. Dan was a kind and giving man who was the first to lend a hand when someone needed help. He was the family's Mr. Fix-It and would happily research and assist in fixing anything that needed attention. Daniel loved his family beyond measure, spending memorable time at the farm, hunting, fishing or just hanging out at the family home cooking delicious meals alongside his Dad. He was a terrific cook and host. He took every opportunity to visit his sister and her family in Michigan where his niece and nephews enjoyed quality time with him. They idolized fun Uncle Dan. He was one of their biggest cheerleaders and so proud of them. Whether it was playing games, joking around or just monkey piling on the floor, there was no end to the joy the kids and Uncle Dan gave each other. He loved animals and was fondly known as the dog whisperer when working with the four Labrador Retrievers owned by the family, including his girl Gaia. Dan never hesitated to take them all for walks, play and cuddle with them. Gaia was his furry baby and he doted on her. She was lucky to have such a loving human daddy to snuggle. Just a few short years ago, Dan decided to buy a motorcycle in Michigan which he drove all the way back to Winnipeg. He became quite the enthusiast and he would often take trips on his bike, especially to and from Michigan and beyond. Dan enjoyed travel throughout his life including Europe, Mexico and the States. He also took great pride in his house in Crescentwood and entering it was like stepping into the pages of a home design magazine. Like his mother, Dan's smile went all the way up to his eyes and his laughter was infectious, just like his dad's. He had such a witty sense of humour and he did a spot-on impression of a young Robert De Niro! We will miss his kind and loving heart. • My heartfelt condolences to Daniel's family. I was his "across the street" neighbour and enjoyed talking with him about anything big or small. He was always interested in everything and was truly a pleasure to talk with. It was fun to see him throwing the ball to Gaia in the mornings; it was so apparent that he was a real animal lover. I will miss him. - Posted by: Gail (neighbour) on: Apr 10, 2018

  • We will miss Daniel very much. We loved talking to him across the fence about gardening -- especially tomatoes! -- BBQing, motorbikes -- lots of things. He was the best neighbour one could ask for. We'll miss too the sound of Daniel and Gaia outside in the morning as he threw her her ball and she joyously ran to fetch it. Our deepest sympathy to his family. - Posted by: Katy and Donal Allen (Neighbour) on: Mar 08, 2018

  • I am terribly sorry to hear the news of Dan’s passing and for your family’s suffering. I first met Dan through my cousin and worked with him at The Loop in Winnipeg many years ago. Once I moved to Toronto we stayed in touch and often met up with friends to dance under many a disco ball. I knew Dan to be a solid man who always had his friends' backs and made us laugh when life or work had us in the weeds.
