Date of Passing: Feb 20, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGIANA GIBSON DOWSE (nee SIMPSON) It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Georgie on the February 20, 2018 at Heritage Lodge, in Winnipeg, at the age of 96 years. Georgie was born in 1921, to Samuel and Mary Simpson (nee Ritchie) and lived all her life in the St. James area. As a young lady, Georgie was an avid photographer and dressmaker working as an assistant and bookkeeper in her chosen field. Then along came Henry Dowse. After their marriage in 1952, Georgie devoted her life to husband, home and family. Georgie continued to reside at the family home on Linwood Street after Henry's passing in 1978. Here for several decades Georgie hosted countless celebrations and sleepovers for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Georgie is survived by her children, Ken, of Winnipeg, Bob, of British Columbia and daughter Pat, of Grosse Isle, who took care of her for years and was beside her as she passed. She also leaves to mourn her passing her beloved grandchildren, LeeAnn Bung, Stacey Eldridge, Craig Dowse, Brad Dowse, Brandi Dowse, and Jess and Kristen Mcmahon. They called her the ice cream Grandma because her freezer was always stocked for the grandkids. As well, she left behind 13 great-grandchildren whom all loved her dearly. Georgie lost her twin sister in 2014; her grandson Scott and great-granddaughter Brittany just this last year. (God must have needed help scooping out the ice cream.) No funeral service will be held. Georgie will be interred next to her sister May in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Sorry to hear of Georgie's passing. I have so many early childhood memories of her and "Hank". They were both such kind and gentle souls. I can still hear their voices. Georgie was so unique...and I remember her sister as well. They really showed they cared about us kids and made us feel special. Like the day I showed up on the Dowses lawn (at age 3) with my father's saw, and began sawing away at the giant Oak on their front lawn. Georgie came out to explain why my lumberjack routine in their front lawn wasn't a good idea. She pointed out that the tree might fall down and crush her house. I saw what she meant, and slinked back across the street to a waiting father, standing with hands on his hips lol. God bless her. She is with Hank now...what a joy for them! - Posted by: David Abbott (Family Friend) on: Mar 04, 2018
