DANIEL HAROLD ROBINSON It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Harold Robinson, on February 26, 2018, with family by his side. Danny was predeceased by his loving mother, Joyce. His memory will be cherished by his father David (Marilyn); sisters, Wendy (Karl) and Holly (Michael); nephews Conor and Shay; nieces Breana and Kyla; his auntie Bev; cousins Bruce (Andrea) and Lori (Bert); extended family and friends. Danny was born in Winnipeg, August 6, 1960. He spent his early years living in Gimli, where there is also the family cottage. He was quite active in sports, excelling in track, until he picked up his first guitar. Then it was ... Rock 'n' Roll! He attended University of Manitoba. However his love of music prompted him to travel to Los Angeles to attend, and graduate from the Guitar Institute of Technology. He would return to Winnipeg to complete his education, with a Masters degree in electrical engineering. Danny's interest in computers shifted his career path into programming. He spent the last 20 years working with the province as a senior developer responsible to help support family services programs. His pastime was spent doing 3-D graphics, anime and playing multiple versions of game consoles. Recently he developed an interest in creating his own gaming graphics. He loved movies, often using vacation time to take Friday afternoons off from work, to see the latest movies. Danny did complete a dream journey travelling to Egypt, visiting numerous sites; Aswan, Abu Simbel. He took a boat trip down the Nile and hiked Mt. Sinai to watch the sunrise . His love of music continued throughout his life. He taught guitar and played in a band in the 1990s. It is also a love shared by his sister Holly. She will remember fondly the musicals, ballets and concerts they attended together; Anti-flag, Heart, Styx, 30 Seconds to Mars and Queen, to name a few. Family and friends are truly thankful to have had another year after Danny's diagnosis to share what is important. His sister Wendy and her children were able to visit numerous times. Also, he was able to continue doing all the things he loved. Danny had never talked about retiring. His plans were about enjoying the next big meal with friends, movie, concert or game being released. A wonderful reminder to spend time with the people you love, doing what you love. "Sing for today, sing for the moment, sing for the time of your life. " A private service will be held. If desired, donations can be made to Riverview Health Centre in appreciation for the care and support provided.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I worked with Danny in the Manitoba Government for over 20 years. We enjoyed working with each other, both having a love for music. We loved going out for lunch together, and just chatting about stuff. One day I heard from a co-worker that Danny was in Riverview Health Centre, and that he wasn't doing well. I decided I had better go and visit him. When I entered his room, he appeared to be sleeping. I gently tried to wake him, to let him know that I was there. He wouldn't wake up. So I found a nurse, and asked her how long she thought he might sleep. She answered that in fact, he may not wake up. Another nurse told me that Danny seemed to like when people sung to him. So being a musician, I thought it would be nice if I came back with my guitar, and sung to Danny for a bit. I came back that night with my guitar, with his family in attendance, and I played and sung for Danny. He really seemed to enjoy that! I could tell, by a peaceful look on his face. I'll miss you, brother! - Posted by: Tim Marceniuk (Friend/Co-worker) on: Apr 13, 2021

  • My condolences to Danny’s Family. Danny and I worked together for a number of years at the Province of Manitoba. As a colleague, Danny was principled and committed to a very high standard of quality. His quest for excellence extended to other aspects of this life, whether it was his interests in mathematics and graphical computation, gaming, or musicianship. On this latter topic, Danny and I had many conversations and lively debates. While searching through my files, I recently came across a challenging piece of music (for me) that Danny had kindly transcribed for me, which included playing tips and a sample audio file of him playing the piece. Such was the talent and kind heart of Danny Robinson. He will be missed. - Posted by: Munna (colleague/friend) on: Aug 31, 2019

  • He was my friend and colleague. I was so sad to hear the news. We always laughed together and I still remember his laughter. I miss you brother, happy travels. May we re-unite in peace. Love, Eddy. - Posted by: Eddy G (Friend) on: Mar 20, 2018

  • Danny and I would have long talks about movies, gaming and life in general. He had such fascinating and exciting stories to tell about his experiences and his insights into day to day events were always entertaining. Danny was very generous with his time and his knowledge, always willing to share his expertise in various applications that he'd worked on with others. I will always be grateful for his words of support when I first started with his group at the Province and trying to find my way in a new area and a new role. My very deepest sympathy to Danny's family on your loss, I know how much he loved you all. - Posted by: Norman Ma (Co-worker) on: Mar 15, 2018

  • I am very sorry to read about Danny’s passing. I worked with Danny for several years at Family Services. We would often have discussions about bands and music and occasionally at lunch take the bus to Long and McQuade to check out the latest equipment. He was a great guy and a gifted musician. My condolences to his family. Fred Van Aertselaer - Posted by: Fred Van Aertselaer ( Former Co-worker/Friend) on: Mar 10, 2018
