GAYLE WILSON Peacefully, with family and friends by her side, Gayle Wilson (nee Smithson) passed away on March 7, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Wilson, who passed away in 2017 and by her husband Cecil Martin, who passed away in 2002, parents, Willard and Alwyn Smithson and her brother Robert. She is survived by her brother Christopher (Winnie), nieces and nephews, Chris, Josh, Faith and Meghan, grandniece Pyper as well as Gordon's children and grandchildren. Gayle was born in Sudbury and enjoyed living in Almonte during her childhood. She devoted her life to the care of others during a 30+ year career as a nurse. Gayle was thrilled to spend time with family, especially when visiting her grandchildren to whom she was known as Gigi or Grandma Gayle. When family was not near by, she created her own through a large collection of friends, which she made and kept with ease. She also enjoyed quality time with her furry, four-legged friends. In her retirement she found love and companionship that shared her enjoyment of good food, good places and good friends. Gayle was a kind, generous, sweet person with an outgoing personality. She was thoughtful and would always find a way to commemorate special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. When faced with adversity, she persevered with a quiet, steely determination. She enjoyed travel, playing cards, knitting, painting and spending time at the lake. She quickly adapted to modern technology, often having the latest iPhone or gadget and used social media to remain in touch with friends and family, near and far. Though her life brought her to many places, Ottawa was always close to her heart. She leaves behind a large group of saddened friends and family, from coast to coast, who are grateful to have had their lives touched by such a special woman. A celebration of Gayle's life will take place at Niakwa Country Club on March 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Many fond memories of time spent with Gayle at 'the cottage' over these last 50 years...from the age of four when she and my Aunt Margie made me the centre of their universe...swimming...hide and seek... to our latter years sharing a few glasses of wine and laughs lounging on the dock on sunny days. Good times..we will miss you Gayle. Karen - Posted by: Karen Davison (friend) on: Mar 16, 2018
