Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD RUCHKALL March 27, 1934 - March 13, 2018 With family at his side, we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, who we loved with all our hearts. Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Shirley, son Geoffrey (Cindy), daughter Diane Batchelor (Gary), son David (Chantal), grandchildren Lisa (Karsten), Paige (Garrett), Derek, Karen, Joel, Jodi, Steven, Danae, Riley, Jacqueline, and numerous relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Catherine Ruchkall, brother Walter, and sister Nell Ramsay. Ed was born and raised in Selkirk, Manitoba. As a youth, he helped run the family-owned pool hall and proudly played on the local baseball team winning the 1949 Manitoba Midget Championship. Upon high school graduation, Ed began his studies at the University of Winnipeg, receiving his Chartered Accountancy designation. In 1956, Ed began working for the Department of National Revenue where he met his future wife Shirley. He was later employed with the Provincial Audit Office and the Manitoba Securities Commission from which he retired in 1991. Ed and Shirley married in 1958, raising their family in East/North Kildonan. Ed relished coaching his sons' baseball and hockey teams and serving as the treasurer at Melrose Community Club. Ed was extremely proud and supportive of all his children and grandchildren, attending their concerts, sporting events, and graduations. He was especially fond of playing cards and discussing sports, current events, investments, geography, and history with them. Upon retirement, Ed continued his passion of investing in the stock market and travelling with his wife on winter vacations. Our family extends their gratitude to the medical staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion. We also send a heart-felt thank you to Louis and Melida Acuna and family for the special bond they shared with Ed. Cremation has taken place and at Ed's request no formal service will be held. Donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or Canadian Blood Services as they were two organizations dear to his heart.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ed's passing. He was always such a friendly, gently humorous guy whenever I was at your house as a little kid and teenager, always making me feel welcomed. Talking with my mom, she said he was a great guy and that my dad liked getting the odd phone call from him about investments - an interest they obviously shared. Hope all of your good memories of him will ease the pain of your loss. - Posted by: Patricia McCowan (School friend of Diane.) on: Mar 26, 2018

My deepest sympathies to you, Shirley and all your family on Ed's passing..He was a great guy and will be in your hearts forever. Be thankful of the many good years you had together raising your family, travelling, and all you did together. He is at peace now, free from all the trials and tribulations in this crazy world, which seems to be getting crazier all the time..Take care and keep in touch! - Posted by: Joan Proteau (friend) on: Mar 19, 2018
