MARY B. PATERSON With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Mary, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, on March 14, 2018 at Riverview Hospital. Mary is survived by husband George, son Andrew ( Tammy); grandsons, Cole and Owen (Jodi), as well as family and friends in Scotland and Winnipeg. Mary was born in Rutherglen, Scotland. She spent her early years in Philadelphia, USA with her family. Upon her return to Scotland, Mary attended school in Glasgow and eventually was employed by the City of Glasgow until immigrating to Winnipeg with husband George. Mary was employed by the City of Winnipeg, Millenium Library, where she enjoyed working with many interesting and knowledgeable people until her illness became too overwhelming forcing her to retire in 2012. She was also a member of Queen Winnipeg No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star. Mary and her family would like to thank staff at Riverview Palliative Care for excellent care and compassion. Also many thanks to friends and members of the Eastern Star for their kindness and support during her illness. According to Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Vital Cemetery. If friends wish, a donation to Siloam Mission would be greatly appreciated by Mary and her family.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Hello, I am Mary’s grandson Cole. Growing up me and my brother would call her “Nana” for no reason except that we were young and didn’t know how to say “grandma”, after that it just stuck, she was now Nana to us and still continues to be. When she passed I was 9 and unfortunately that caused me to forget a lot about her, even so it didn’t make the death any less painful and to be honest it hurts more. Mary was such a great grandmother always intent to keep me and my dad’s side connected after his passing, after she died it became a lot harder on my mom and me to keep in touch with my grandpa. To end this off, my nana was one of the best people I’ve ever met, she was so sweet and caring to us and it was such a honor to be related to her, may she rest in peace. - Posted by: Cole Paterson (Grandson) on: May 11, 2025
