ANNE ZUK On March 11, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, the bestest Mama and most beautiful Baba closed her eyes and softly exhaled her last breath. Born Anne Leduchowski, she was the second-youngest of five siblings who grew up on the family farm in Hamerlik, MB. Just a few miles away, a young John Zuk was growing more handsome each year; inevitably the two fell in love. The war would take them to Toronto, where Anne lived with her sister and worked as a riveter on Lancaster bombers. In 1946, she and John returned to Manitoba, married, and began their adventure together. For several years, they lived in remote areas of the province as John's work took them through the countryside. But once the kids began school, they moved to Polson Bay in Winnipeg, where they would live for over half a century. Mom was always a sports fan. She loved to play baseball and curl - and cheered for the Blue Jays (her boyfriends) her whole life. She was known for her beautiful gardens and couldn't wait to start poking in the dirt each spring. She was a wonderful cook, and loved nothing more than to spoil her family with their favourite dishes - including her killer banana cream pie. She was endlessly kind, patient, and generous, and it brought her family joy to be able to spoil her in her last years. When we lost Dad in 2011, Mom lost the love of her life. But in 2016, she moved to Amber Meadows, where she enjoyed many friends, old and new. Mom loved her daily phone calls with her son, week-long visits with her daughter, and impromptu dates with her grandchildren. Our Booboo lived her life with a positive outlook and taught us how to find joy in our own lives. She is deeply missed, but will always be remembered with the fierce love only those closest to her would understand. Anne is survived by her sister Helen, her son Jim (Pat), daughter Shirley (Jim), granddaughter Joanne (Mike, Jillian and Danielle), and grandson John (Brigitte). Per Mom's wishes, a private memorial and interment of her ashes at Glen Eden has taken place where Father Zachary Shwaluk officiated.

  • Remember John and Anne like it was yesterday. As a friend of son Jim, we were always welcome to the Zuk home where we spent many hours playing table tennis and just hanging out as young teenagers. So sorry for your loss Jim and Shirley. - Posted by: Ron sherby (Friend) on: Mar 17, 2018
