Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERDIS STENSGAARD LINDBLOM (PETERSEN) May 14, 1931 - March 15, 2018 This lovely lady with the twinkling blue eyes and beautiful smile lived her life from love and from friendship. It was woven through every relationship she touched, from her very beginning to her very end. Herdis was born to hard-working Danish parents, Alfred and Kirstine Petersen. Together with her brothers, Erik, Ben and Harry, she learned the importance of a good work ethic, to be supportive of one another, how honesty, faith and integrity will usually have best results. She loved and embraced her Danish heritage, its values and traditions. From her family, to our family, to their families, the Pebernodder, Kranselkage, Aebleskiver, Frikadeller, and 'Skaal' (only to mention a few) were infused in to every day, and present at special occasions, and in places of honour at international events. This gentle, kind, sweet, peaceful soul could move mountains if needed!! She extended her kindness to all, the twinkle in her eye with her wonderful smile was easily shared with whomever crossed her path. Yet, if she had the sense that something wasn't working or wasn't right, she quietly worked to change it. Often this was done alone, sometimes with a little help, usually with the best outcome for everyone. She learned the lessons offered, did not use them as excuses or 'badges of honour' and moved on, continuing to smile and treat others as she wanted to be treated. She had a child-like sense of wonder about the world which endeared her to her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren, Carling, Kayla and Andrew got the best of her. She was their first and best friend, mentor and soulmate. Grandma/Herdie was the sounding board that made sense of everything. Her special letters and decorated packages filled with clippings were in their mailboxes for 'just because' times and every special time to them. Little touches, always, making it meaningful and special. Because of this love and friendship, they never wanted to disappoint their dear Grandma. Their love will keep them connected, even into the next life. We believe she lived a generation ahead of herself. When we were children, we'd have 'kids coffee', now called a 'latte'; we'd have chocolate cake mixed with ice cream, now called a 'blizzard'; we learned how to ride a bicycle in the bull pasture, now called 'high risk behaviour'. Such a natural way for making the usual, special; her work, our playtime and fun; a friendly smile and hello, feeling loved just being around her; ask her to give someone a hug for you, you know she will, you know you could count on her like that. She loved being in the mix of something happening, quietly enjoying the goings on. For nine out of ten times, at the end, you'd find her at the sink doing dishes. "That's where you can have the best visits", she'd say with encouragement, as she closed out the party! Our dear Mom, Grandma, Bedstemor, and Herdie will always be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Lois and Donna (Kim) Henderson; her granddaughters, Carling (Anthony) Trotter and Kayla (Jonallan Lindley-Scott); and Bedstemor to Axel and Quinn and Annalise, Daniel and Brynn, and, by all of you whom felt loved by her. She was met in Heaven by her parents; grandson, Andrew; her loving companion, Herb Sweet; brother and sister-in-law Erik and Susan; sister-in-law Beatrice; and her ex-husband, Bruce Lindblom. Herdis was one of a kind. True love and friendship was naturally woven into every time and every thing. Her quick wit, keen quiet sense of humour and cheeky grin, charming to those who knew her and charmed those whom she only just met. For Herdis, faith, grace, dignity, respect was her way of life. Our Herdie, thank you for being you. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, MB. Condolences, pictures and videos may be left on Herdis' Tribute Wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
