Date of Passing: Apr 09, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE THOMPSON (nee KEMPER) On April 9, 2018, Kay passed peacefully in the Kildonan Personal Care Centre at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by husband Everett and mother and father Barbara and Anton Kemper. Kay will be lovingly remembered by her son Raymond Thompson (Janice), daughter Carolyn Whitford (Jeff), and grandsons, Bryan and Myles. Kay was born in Yugoslavia in 1928, and came to Canada with her mother and father in 1930. She grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, graduating from Isaac Newton High School. She attended the Angus School of Commerce and obtained an executive secretarial position at the Board of Grain Commissioners from 1948 to 1959. This is where she met Everett. They were married in 1955, and settled in St. James. Following the birth of her children, Ray and Carolyn, she stayed home to raise them while participating in community endeavours, including canvassing for the Cancer Society for nine years. Kay enjoyed bowling with the Clifton Ladies League from 1967 to 1992, spending many summers at Petersfield by the water with family and friends, travelling with Everett after retirement, and gardening vegetables and flowers during the spring/summer months. Kay cherished her friends and looked forward to the many chats, lunches and outings they had over the years. Above all, she always loved being with her children and grandsons. Her sweet and caring demeanor will be missed by all. According to Mom's wishes, in lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
