GERTRUDE LILLIAN QUEEN (nee BALL) November 20, 1923 - April 13, 2018 After a brief stay in St. Boniface Palliative Care, Gertrude peacefully passed into the loving arms of her Saviour Jesus Christ. Gert was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Gert is survived by her loving husband George, of 75 years, her children Gary (Carol), Kenneth (Beverley), David, Donald (Sylvia) and Brian (Katherine), her brother Roy (Marie), 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Gert was a gentle spirit and loved being surrounded by family and friends. Gert always put everyone's needs above her own. She lived life gently and had a ready smile for everyone she met. Gert was a fierce protector of her five boys and took great delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of Gert's great loves was cooking and especially baking, spending many an afternoon reading her cookbooks and trying new recipes. Some of Gert's other passions were family fishing trips, flower gardening and watching hummingbirds and songbirds flitting about. Gert was a member of the Eastern Star and loved going to the Seniors Club in Ashern. Upon moving back to Winnipeg she participated in the many activities offered at her apartment complex. Gert and George loved their winter trips to Florida. Gert was an active church member and her deep faith in God helped her throughout her life and sustained her during her illness. The family would like to thank Ruby and Angela for being such wonderful friends to Gert and we appreciate the care, compassion and love you gave her. Many thanks to the Palliative Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the care, compassion and support they provided to Gert and the family. A special thanks to Dr. Y. Fahmy for taking care of Gert with such gentleness and love. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of her life on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.
