NORMAN JAMES BAXTER Norman "Norm" James Baxter, 74, passed away, at home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Sunday, March 11, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Norm was born May 16, 1943 to Norman "Jack" John Baxter and Marion "Mary" Deloris Baxter (Gregg). He grew up in Lena, Manitoba on the family farm and rode a horse to school as a young child. The Baxters later lived in Killarney and then Roland, Manitoba where the family ran a diner. As a child he loved animals and had a soft spot for pets his entire life. He loved books and grew into a voracious reader as an adult, almost always carrying a book with him. Norm drove hot-rods as a young adult, developing a life-long passion for classic cars. Norm was a surveyor and later supervisor/foreman in engineering infrastructure and construction projects in northern Manitoba and Alberta. Before retirement, Norm was the Superintendent for the Town of Virden and a consultant. Norm's passion was golfing and he spent countless hours on the golf course. He was a founding member of the Manitoba Tundra Golf Association, playing golf games in the winter despite (or because of) snow banks and frozen water hazards. Norm had a great sense of humour and one of his favourite pastimes was kicking back with a drink and sharing a good story or joke. His loved ones will cherish the memories of the time spent together golfing, camping, fishing and relaxing in the outdoors. Norm is survived by his partner, Lynne Picard; mother of his children, Pat Baxter; son, Tim (Cory) Baxter; daughter, Kari (Ernie) Rockall along with their children, Kirsten and Tyler; daughter, Tara Baxter Daeninck (Eric Daeninck) along with their children, Samuel, Keiran and Keagan; brother, Gregg Baxter (Rocky Carriere) and nephew, Randy; and other extended family, loved ones and friends. Norm was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby, who died in childhood, and sister, Carol. Following cremation, a private function was held by the family. Memorial donations may be sent to CancerCare Manitoba or the charity of your choice.

Norm was a great friend and we spent many, many hours chasing a little white ball around. He was always ready, in any weather to hit the links and we had thousands of laughs on and off the course. He will be dearly missed but his memory will always be with us!! - Posted by: Doug McLellan (Friend) on: Apr 28, 2018
