CARMEN MELIZZA June 6, 1955 - April 30, 2018 Surrounded by his family, Carmen unexpectedly passed on April 30, 2018 after a recent cancer diagnosis. Carmen leaves his wife Barb; children, of which he was very proud, Mark (Nicky) and Chrissy (Mark), grandchildren that he adored, Laura, Andrea, Aiden and Sadie, parents, Josephine and Sam, sister Lucy (Joe), mother-in-law Betty-Anne, brother-in-law Dan (Pam), nieces, Marlena and Lisa, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Carmen was born in Santa Maria Imbaro, Italy and in October of 1963 he and his family immigrated to Canada. In 1974 while hanging out at his favourite A&W on Portage Avenue, he met Barb. They married on January 15, 1977 and over the next few years welcomed two children. Carmen was always an honest, dedicated and hardworking man who supported his family by working as a journeyman electrician. Starting as an apprentice at Raber Electric and Balan Electric and eventually forming his own business, United Electric, in 1984 with his partner Martin Yeroschak. Through the years Carmen worked on a variety of projects including many streetscaping projects that he was proud of for the 1999 Pan Am games, and most recently, the funnelator across from the Bell MTS Place. Carmen continued to operate the business even until his final days. On Mother's Day 1989 Carmen purchased a 1950 Riley Roadster which he always claimed was for Barb. Working with family and friends, the Riley was restored which led to nearly 30 years of travelling to parking lots all over for car shows and making many close friends. Carmen and Barb enjoyed relaxing and travelling to several warm destinations, with Mexico being one of their favourites. They also purchased a travel trailer that they took camping on weekends throughout the summer. However one of his greatest joys was his grandchildren. He restored two garden tractors just for them and he loved watching the kids riding them around the yard. Carmen was a loving man to family and friends, who left us too soon. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Boniface Hospital, particularly 7AWest and ICMS 2nd floor for their care and support. For those that wish, a viewing will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Seasons Funeral Chapel, 576 Balsam Crescent in Oakbank, MB. On Tuesday, May 8, a funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. at St Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsyth Rd., Winnipeg. Viewing will commence at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. If you have a classic car, bring it out as Carmen always loved a good car show. In lieu of flowers, honouring Carmen with a donation to a charity of your choice is requested. seasonsfunerals.ca

I am so sorry to learn if your loss. Over the years as I walked my dogs, I often got to talk to Carmen. As he saw me coming he would walk to the street to say hello and we would chat about a variety of things: his lawn tractor rebuild for his grandchild, his weekend camping plans with his trailer, his new truck, car show plans and a variety of other topics. I always enjoyed our chats and got to know him as a sincere and kind man who loved his family and who enjoyed his life with them. I am sure God has a special place for a man like Carmen and has new plans for him now. Having lost my youngest daughter this year I can understand the pain and emptiness you feel and I know that God will give the strength to endure your loss. God bless you. - Posted by: Robert Wareing (Neighbor) on: May 08, 2018

Carmen was one of the very few that can honestly be called a true Friend. If he was ever able to offer help, we always knew it was there. If a person dropped by for a visit, he was always welcoming. I am so very sorry for Your loss. Carmen made it obvious he was very proud of his Family. My deepest condolences. As a Friend he will be deeply missed. Godspeed Carmen, and once again to Barb, and the rest of the Family, I am truly sorry. He was one of a kind, and I will miss him too. - Posted by: Jack Mac Donald jr (A Friend ) on: May 07, 2018
