Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRYAN HERSHFIELD Bryan Hershfield died on April 10, 2018 at the age of 52. He was predeceased by his brother David. He is survived by his parents, Betty Anne and Earl, his brother Jeffrey, sister-in-law Alison, nephew Andrew and niece Sophia. Bryan had wide-ranging interests in keeping with his nimble, penetrating intellect. He was a voracious reader, graduating from children's books and comic books to science fiction and fantasy in adolescence, a period during which, like many teens of his generation, he became a devotee of the role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. As a young adult he took to reading history and politics. In the past few decades he turned his attention to film, and developed a deep appreciation of the art form. He reveled in the rich history and complex statistics of baseball. Yet another passion of his was music, especially the myriad subgenres of reggae that were prevalent in the late 1970s and 1980s. He served as a volunteer at the Winnipeg Folk Festival for a couple of summers. As a young teenager he played on some fine soccer teams out of Sir John Franklin Community Centre. Later on, he came to know his way around a billiards table. Bryan even had a brief stint on television in the mid-1970s as a cast member of the CTV children's show "Let's Go" which aired across Canada. Bryan was possessed of a wry wit that was finely tuned to life's absurdities. He was a sensitive and very private person. But he was devoted to those he cared about. He adored and admired Alison, his sister-in-law, and he was deeply attached to Andrew and Sophie, his niece and nephew, for whom he would do anything. His friendship with Ian Corne provided emotional ballast throughout his life, and he shared with his brother Jeff an enveloping intimacy that provided succor to both of them. Most importantly of all, however, Bryan was a faithful and loving son to his parents, Betty Anne and Earl, right to the end. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Palliative Care Unit (3 East) at Riverview Health Centre. Their tireless dedication to his comfort and dignity ensured that Bryan received the finest care in the final phase of his life. Funeral services were held on April 13 at Adas Yeshurun Herzelia Synagogue. Pallbearers were Melvin Fages, Jordan Garber, Ian Corne, Jason Wortzman, Joel Hershfield and Martin Pollock. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Tefs, Sophia Hershfield, Melvin Hershfield, Pamela Fages, Shari Fages, Stewart Plante, Michael Jones, and Peter Watts.
