ADELINE THERESA PIELECH Passed on April 30, 2018 On April 2, 1928 Adeline (Addie) Geras was born. Her parents, Mary and Frank (both of Polish descent) believed and instilled strong family values throughout our mom's early years. Attending Isaac Newton High School, she met and fell in love with her soulmate, our father, Stan. Both began working after completing high school and on July 8, 1950 they were wed at St. John's Cantius Church. Our mom's early married years were filled with fishing trips to Trout Lake and Pine Falls, B.B.Q.s, and highly competitive games of penny Rumoli. These never forgotten moments were often shared and enjoyed with her three sisters, Angie, Bunny and Franny, plus their lifetime partners, Mitch, Bill and Tony. Our mom and dad, along with our mom's sisters all began their goals of owning a home and having a family. Over the next years Mom and Dad worked to co-own and run a small corner grocery store on Aberdeen Avenue, then moved on to a home on Polson, when Dad became a salesman in the paint industry, went to Yorkton, Saskatchewan for two years, then returned to Winnipeg. During these years she gave birth to three children (Debbie, David, Robin) and finally settled into their dream home in the Maples. On November 21, 1973 her soulmate passed away and the future became uncertain. A newer home with a large mortgage and high interest rates, no incoming life insurance or financial support. At that time, without discussion or fear, she decided that she would continue to provide a home and not uproot her children. This decision started her long career at Sears. She managed to pay off that home and maintained it inside and out for the next 45 years. While she did this she managed to provide a birthday gift and fresh made "birthday" apple pie every year, a Christmas gift and filled stockings every year, a fridge with drinks and snacks every visit. She never raised her voice in anger, or complained about her life. She never made any attempts to find a new soulmate. When not answering the phone, she could be at bingo, walking to the store, or sitting in the backyard under the shade of her apple tree, reading the Free Press and enjoying a beer. She loved her Bombers and Jets and going to Sonia's at Lockport. On April 2 our mom celebrated her 90th birthday and received, with great delight, an official congratulations from the Prime Minister of Canada. On Monday, April 30, God answered her recent prayers. She has rejoined with her soulmate (our beloved dad) and rejoices with her parents, sisters and in-laws, and all past family and friends for eternity. Spring has arrived and the robins will build a nest in her backyard tree and sing to our mom in Heaven. Love from all your family. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Parish Cemetery (4387 Main Street). Donations in memory of Mom can be made to her charity of choice, The Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Just a note of thanks from the family....... Thank you Catherine (Mom's foot nurse) for the time you spent with Mom in her home. She always looked forward to your visits and the special attention given to her feet. Mom always commented on how wonderful she felt afterwards. Thank you Brenda (Mom's hair stylist) for coming into Mom's home when she was no longer able to go to a hair salon. She enjoyed our conversations with you while we sat in her kitchen as you cut her hair. A fresh hair cut always picked Mom up and made her feel so much better. - Posted by: Robin Scott (daughter) on: May 06, 2018

  • The things that I will miss are immeasurable. Mom and I shared a very special relationship, one which I will always remember and cherish. She was the most generous person in my world and I was lucky to have her for as long as I did. Some of my most cherished memories are from long ago....."Mom and Me" memories.....playing Kinsmen Jackpot TV bingo on Saturday nights.....playing cards together (Crazy 8's)......walking down to Thunderbird Restaurant on the corner of McPhillips & Jefferson for a burger & fries......taking the bus on Thursdays to meet Mom at Sears (her one evening shift every week) to have dinner in the Sears or Eatons cafeteria, always followed by a piece of red velvet cake......our same love for dogs (thank you Mom for always ensuring that our home was never without furry family members). Many decades later the things that I will miss most are still the simple things.....our daily telephone calls just to see what the other was doing or watching on TV......sharing our birthdays (which are 2 days apart).....the "special" telephone call I got every Spring when Mom would see the first robin in her backyard apple tree.....then in recent years our Sunday dinners at Mom's (cooked by Dave). Earlier on these dinners would be followed by us sitting in the backyard with Mom and she would enjoy watching my dogs "Bella" and "Kenzie" chasing their ball or practicing agility. Then eventually, and more recently, dinner was followed by me and the dogs hopping up onto Mom's bed and we would watch TV together. You are on your way, Mom, to a much better place. I know you have many waiting for you there and they will be accompanied by many wagging tails. Thank you for being my Mom. Love you.......bye for now. • Mrs. Pielech was an unbelievable lady. She always had a kind word for everyone and she put up with a bunch of teenagers (Jack, Ken, Gary, Andy and myself) - who often crashed there with Dave. I have thought about her often over the years and she will be truly missed. May God's grace and mercy provide Dave, Debbie and Robin (and the rest of the family) with comfort and support in the knowledge that our Lord and Savior has Mrs. Pielech safely in his arms. God Bless you all. - Posted by: Rod Kebicz (friend) on: May 05, 2018
