BRUCE (SYDNEY) HARESIGN It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and uncle on April 30, 2018, at the age of 60 years. Bruce left us after a courageous battle with cancer. He fought through every obstacle thrown his way with unbelievable bravery and determination. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife and best friend of 38 years, Josie; children, Ryan (Erin) and grandsons, Maddox and Jett; Melissa (Josh); and Matthew (Kelsey) and granddaughter Hudson; father Henry; and sister Helen (Milutin). Bruce was predeceased by his mother Margaret. Born in Winnipeg on June 13, 1957, Bruce was a lifelong Winnipegger and grew up in St. Vital on Handyside Avenue. He attended Varennes Elementary School and Glenlawn Collegiate. Always a quick study and with a gift for numbers, he earned his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba and went on to complete his Chartered Accountant designation. He worked for Deloitte earlier in his career, and for the past 15 years served as the Chief Financial Officer for Steve's Livestock Transport. Bruce and Josie met as teenagers at the Misericordia Hospital where they worked together in the kitchen. From that point on, they were extremely close and did everything as a team. They have lived together on Strand Circle for the past 31 years, where they raised their children in a home full of love, family values, great food, and sports. Bruce's primary passion in life was family: he lived for his wife Josie, his three children, and his grandchildren. To Bruce, the needs of his family came before everything else and he will always be lovingly remembered for that. Bruce's other passions include travelling, camping (both as a youth and later as father), hockey, curling, football and golf. Bruce was the coordinator and navigator of the annual family summer vacations. These famous vacations included road trips to all corners of North America in the Chevy Lumina van with the tent trailer. After their three kids grew up and left the Strand Circle home, Bruce and Josie started travelling further abroad and enjoyed wonderful trips together to destinations in London, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Italy, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Bruce and Josie were Bombers and Jets season ticket holders and enjoyed many games together. Bruce was an integral member of several curling teams including his Saturday night co-ed team with Josie, Laurie, and Joe. Undoubtedly the future is not as bright without Bruce. He will be forever missed, but we hope that we have all learned enough from him to carry on his legacy of making the world a better place. The family wishes to express our thanks to the team on the GB3 ward at the Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg for their compassionate care during Bruce's stay at the hospital. A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg on Monday, May 7, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that any donations be made in memory of Bruce Haresign to the Manitoba Lung Association. Donations may be made by phone, by mail, or online via their website mb.lung.ca. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit www.chapellawn.ca Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Somehow in our busy lives I lost touch with Bruce. So much so that I only learned of this sad news today. I truly regret not keeping in touch. Bruce was a true friend. When we travelled together out east back in 1976 to one if his relative's wedding, we had a great time! We shared many hockey, golf and curling games over the years. Bruce was my best man at my wedding, he really was the best, Man!!! I was fortunate to work with Bruce at the hospital and watched his relationship grow with Josie. I am so sorry for your loss. May God bless you!! - Posted by: Cal Kowcun (Bruce was my best friend growing up in St. Vital) on: Sep 18, 2019

  • Very sorry to learn of Bruce's passing. I had the pleasure of working under Bruce at Deloitte for 5 1/2 years. He was a tremendous mentor, with a lot of patience. With most employees having a heavy workload, his laid-back demeanor allowed for a very positive experience on a daily basis. While Bruce seemed to enjoy the workplace camaraderie, it was obvious that, as stated in his obituary, his heart and mind were always about his family. Bruce, enjoy that cold beer, and keep working on that curling delivery... - Posted by: Fred Mostowy (Former co-worker) on: May 30, 2018

  • Dear Josie! My heart aches when I think about your loss.. Your husband was an amazing person to have around. Life takes sudden turns and we can hardly react to time, we have to give in. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on losing your dearest husband. Life will never be the same again but you have to keep that patience for your family and friends. Please stay strong, as this is a tough phase of life. Remember your husband and all the lovely moments that you have spent with your husband. We have many men who make up our lives Father, brother, grandfather and son But the one that we call husband is the one who we attach our heart and live as one With the solemn oath that until death do we part God gives us many gifts in life, parents, children even friends; But the special gift is in a blessed union to the one true love of our lives That is the one that we call husband Lucky is the woman who finds that special man The one true love from which all love springs The joy of children that we call our own I am so grateful for that one man I found That I chose to be my husband. With Love and Sympathy Natalya Ulyakhina. - Posted by: Natalya Ulyakhina (employee) on: May 05, 2018
