ELIZABETH (BETTY) ANN KLEIN (MCKENZIE)
Born: Sep 28, 1935
Date of Passing: Apr 19, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) ANN KLEIN (nee MCKENZIE) Betty Klein passed peacefully at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, on Thursday April 19, 2018. She leaves her son Robert Klein of Montreal, Quebec; and nephews, Scott McKenzie (JoAnn, Anna, Claire, Maura), David McKenzie (Lianne, Kristin, Alex), and John McKenzie, and niece Donna McKenzie (Myron, Lynn, Allen). She is predeceased by her parents, David and Elizabeth McKenzie, her only brother Gerry McKenzie, and sister-in-law Yvonne McKenzie. Betty was born September 28, 1935 in Selkirk and lived on the family farm near Netley Marsh and Lake Winnipeg, until 1950 when the family moved into Winnipeg after losing their home to fire. Betty graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1957 and over the course of her career she worked her way up to nursing management. She proudly gave excellent and compassionate care in the Woman's Pavilion of the General Hospital (later the Health Sciences Centre) for many years; and also at Sharon Home until health challenges forced her into early retirement. Betty remained as active as possible in retirement and she will always be remembered as a fantastic seamstress, knitter, crafter and an excellent cook. She loved good food! Betty treated her brother's grandchildren as if they were her very own: she loved making clothing and other gifts for them. Betty cherished friends from all stages of her life but particularly from "57B" and she attended all of the reunions until she simply wasn't able to anymore. We would like to say a sincere thank you to Chris and Jean Thain, Josie and Boyd Campbell, and the staff at St. Norbert who took such good care of Betty these past six years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made in Betty's name to a charity of your choice. I just wanted to share what a privilege it was to get to know Betty and advocate and care for her. I can only imagine the mark she left on those she cared for in her nursing career. I to o thank her very close, faithful friends I know these past years haven’t been easy for you. - Posted by: Sandi (Nurse) on: May 29, 2018
