RICHARD (RICK) RAYMOND GAUNT It is with profound sadness the family announce the sudden passing of Rick on Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home. He was predeceased by his father Ken and his Aunt Lou. He is survived by beloved wife of nearly 31 years, Karen, children, Adam and Marty, mother Elsa, in-laws Gordon and Doris Richards and brothers, Ron (Beth) and Chris. Also left to mourn are brother and sister-in-law Darrell and Laura Richards, cousins, Hardy (Helga) Bock, Karin Bock, Ted Bock (Leanne) and Margaret Moulden and their families, along with countless friends and co-workers. A life-long Winnipegger born on April 10, 1962, Rick grew up in the Crestview area, and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the burgeoning neighborhood and friendship of all of the kids that grew up with us on Rogan Drive. So much so that he remained in the area and raised his family within a few blocks of the family home. At 19, Rick met Karen, the love of his life at one of his first jobs at the local KFC, and often said "no one ever looked better in red polyester" The two of them were a perfect match and their love affair led to a happy marriage and two beautiful and talented children, Adam, who like Rick is a talented musician and singer (some might say he surpassed his dad in this regard), and Marty, a gifted artist (who definitely surpassed him!) Rick, a graduate of John Taylor Collegiate and the University of Winnipeg, began his 34 year career at Travel Manitoba, initially as a college student at one of the information centers, working his way up to his last position as Senior Manager, Business Analytics. A friend to all, Rick was always cheerful and with his dry wit and friendly ways, was always surrounded by loving friends and family throughout his life. He loved the late summer nights, entertaining the neighbors in their gazebo on Inch Bay or weekends at the beloved family cottage on Caddy Lake. The bi-annual "Gentlemen's Weekends" were always a highlight with great friends, Ken Macauley, Russ Harrison, Tim Church, Mark Fowler, Ken Janes and Doug Krysko. Next to his family and friends, Rick loved his Jets and Bombers and supported them through good times and bad A celebration of Rick's life will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Heart & Stroke Foundation. We offer our deepest sympathies to Karen and the family. We will remember Rick for his long-term service at Travel Manitoba, for his sense of humour and way of looking at life, for his thoughtfulness and considerations of others and for always being there for tourism. He demonstrated much patience whenever he was training and offering technical assistance and nothing went unnoticed. He will be missed. Like many, I am shocked at the sudden passing of Rick. My experiences with Rick were primarily 1978-1980, then again in 2010 at our 30th high school reunion. It was then that I learned Rick had fought a courageous battle with cancer and survived. My wife had fought cancer as well although not to the degree Rick did. I know Rick played a big role in life with his family, friends, the community and was a a passionate supporter of the Bombers and the Jets. We were able, through social media, to stay in touch and updated on a number of aspects in life (like politics!). I didn't interact with Rick after graduating in 1980 as we "took off" to build our lives but I sure enjoyed his and Karen's company at the reunion. Our sincerest condolences to you Karen and your boys Adam and Marty. - Posted by: Doug Fraser (School Friend from 1980) on: May 19, 2018

Rick was an awesome guy, very clever and a lot of fun. I went to junior high school with him in Winnipeg at Spring Valley junior high. I am so sorry for this great loss in the life of your family. - Posted by: Paul Hughes (Junior High School friend) on: May 19, 2018

Dear Karen, Adam, Amanda and the whole Gaunt/Richards clan...we are shocked and saddened by Rick’s sudden and untimely passing and offer our heartfelt sympathies. I have nothing but very fond memories of all of our times together. Whether it was hanging out in the Champs staff room, having coffee and French onion soup at Schmeck’s, getting countless rides in his blue Datsun (sharing the back with that coconut head!) or just getting together with the whole gang, remembering those times will always bring a smile to my face. Geez, we sure missed a lot of afternoon classes! We have lost a wonderful man and friend, and the while it’s heaven’s gain, it is our big loss.
