Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVELVA ELIZABETH RAAEN (née WILCOX) 1919 - 2018 Velva, 98, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2018 at the Country Meadows Personal Care Home in Neepawa. Vel will be remembered by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Shirley Thom; Shane (Lynn), McKenna, Dawson, Anisten; Sandi (Devin) Jarvis, Brynn, Sienna; Sherri (Roger); Larry (Carrol) Raaen; Joan, Arden; Blaine; Karen (Tom) Wilson; Andrea, Baillie, Emmett; and Nikki (James, Colin, Jacob). She is also survived by her brother Gylie (Barb) Wilcox, sisters-in-law, Kay Wilcox and Kaye Radabaugh, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Andy; son-in-law Gordon Thom; parents, Herb and Agnes Wilcox; siblings, Wes, Helen (Earl) Jamieson, Lyle, Mae (Roy) Zilkie and Allen (Thelma), and in-laws, Anders and Birgit Raaen; Trygve (Dolly); Anne (Fred) McPhedran; Chet Radabaugh; and Ernie Croft. Vel was born on December 22, 1919 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan and grew up in the Consul area. She and Andy were married on August 5, 1940. They rented land near Austin, Manitoba before buying their farm on the Arden Ridge in 1944. Vel also worked at East View Lodge for 10 years. After retirement, Andy and Vel moved to Neepawa. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting and reading. The funeral service was held on May 28 at the Neepawa United Church with interment at the Austin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Devin Jarvis, Woody Mutrie, Arden Raaen, Chuck Terin, Dawson Thom and Shane Thom. The family would like to thank Rev. Kristin Woodburke, White's Funeral Home, UCW, and the staff of Country Meadows. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Country Meadows or a charity of your choice.
