DANIEL TOWNLEY CATON 1924 - 2018 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Daniel Townley Caton, at age 93, on May 24, 2018. Left to mourn are Danny's beloved wife of 70 years, Joyce; two daughters, Dana Seepish and her husband Ken, Cindy Gordon and her husband Kevin; one son Paul and his wife Marcia; as well as grandchildren, Jeff Dahlin and his wife Kareen, Chris Dahlin and his wife Alana, Lisa Gordon, Brian Caton and his wife Jen and Carolyn Callbeck and her husband Rudy. Danny was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Haley Dahlin, Emma Callbeck, Owen Dahlin and Jaden Caton, who also mourn his passing. Mr. Caton was born in Winnipeg, where he attended St. Ignatius School and St. Paul's High School. In his youth, Danny enjoyed playing hockey and diving off the Elmwood Park Bridge. At the young age of 18, he joined the RCAF. After serving in numerous theatres of war throughout the world, Danny spent the remainder of the war with RCAF 435 "Chinthe" Squadron in Burma. He often recounted his war experiences in stories ranging in tone from amusing and funny to downright terrifying. He was one of the only remaining members of the original wartime squadron. After the war, Danny and Joyce were married at St. Edward's Parish on August 21, 1948. They raised their family in St. James and resided there until his passing. Danny was a skilled sheet metal worker and held positions of increasing responsibility, including Foreman, at Bristol Aerospace until his retirement in 1987. Outside work, he used his skills to craft many beautiful gifts for his children and grandchildren. These many items will be forever treasured by the family. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2400 Portage Ave., Winnipeg on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Eric Giddins as celebrant. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeff Dahlin, Chris Dahlin, Owen Dahlin, Jaden Caton, Rudy Callbeck and Brian Caton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Smile Canada. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit www.chapellawn.ca Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I feel sad to know that he passed away. I worked on the assembly of the air intake on the l1011 aircraft for 8 years. I later moved to Montreal to work on the challenger 604 building the drop down door. He was a good man to work for. - Posted by: bill germak (i worked for dan caton from 1973 to 1981) on: Aug 23, 2025
