HELEN DEROCHE July 12, 1928 - June 2, 2018 It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Deroche on June 2, 2018, with her family and friends by her side. Grandma was born in Winnipeg, MB and was soon after adopted by Achille and Ida Mathews where she grew up with them on the farm in Holland, MB. After her father retired from farming they moved to Swan Lake. She was married September 3, 1953 to Andre Guy Deroche. The two of them moved to Charleswood and raised their two children, Mark and Kim. She also cared for many of the children in the neighbourhood that are, to this day, considered family. We lovingly know her as our little Heleka and as Auntie Helen to all the children she cared for. After retirement, she spent many years of her life travelling the world with Grandpa by her side, their winter years were spent in Arizona crafting with friends and summers in the Whiteshell with family. It was no secret that Grandma enjoyed her Bingo nights with the ladies. She was an excellent cook, doting mother and loving grandmother. Helen was predeceased by her husband Andy, of 56 years. She leaves to mourn her son Mark (Diane), daughter Kimberley (John), grandchildren, Amanda (Matt), Kayla, Casey (Andrew), Kendra and Kyle, her great-grandchildren, Valerie, Owen, Ellie, and longtime family friend Judy Lalonde, but the list of those who will miss her is endless. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd. with Msgr. Maurice Comeault presiding. Entombment will follow at the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum at Assumption Cemetery. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit www.chapellawn.ca Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Mark, Kim and family. Our condolences on the loss of your mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a feisty and friendly lady. She never had trouble making friends. It always amazed me as to how many people she knew. Unfortunately we are unable to attend the funeral but our thoughts will be with you. • Helen and I first met about 10 years ago, when my sisters and I came to Varsity View for the first time to play Bingo. We didn't know where to sit and she immediately offered us a seat at her table. I still sit in the place and will miss her dearly. I hope when my time comes, she has a place reserved beside her for me. Helen, you were a peach, and my "outings", as you used to say, won't be the same without you! My sincerest condolences to all of her family. - Posted by: monika (Mona)mikkelson (Bingo Friend) on: Jun 05, 2018
