MARIA THERESA MINSKY (nee SMYK) September 25, 1945 - June 3, 2018 Peacefully, with her family by her side, Maria passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, June 3, 2018. Maria is survived by her loving husband Paul, of 53 years, her sons, Russell (Wendy) and Kerry (Kristel), her daughters, Angelina (Alvin) Hirsch and Delilah (Wally) Strylytski, 10 grandchildren, Kailyn (Kyle), Taylor, Celine, Tori, Alicia, Michael, Jennifer, Victoria, Wyatt, Christina, and her great-grandson Jace. She was predeceased by her daughter Melody June, parents, Anthony Smyk and Stephania Bin, her brother John Smyk, and nephew Kevin Smyk. Maria was born in Pirmasens, Germany on September 25, 1945. Shortly after her birth, her parents settled in Brazil to start a new life. When she was 10 years old, her family came to Canada and, after a short time, settled in Winnipeg. Maria and Paul married on July 17, 1965. It wasn't long before they had a house full of kids. Maria enjoyed her many spring and summers at the cabin. She loved putting food out for the hummingbirds and took great joy in watching them. She enjoyed travelling south for the winter. Over the years, she welcomed many visitors that came to spend time with them. Maria was diagnosed with cancer in February of 2012 and battled the disease bravely till the end. She is now with our loving Father in heaven. The family wishes to thank Dr. Altman, his team, nurses and staff at CancerCare for everything they have done. Thank you to all the friends and family who came to the hospital to express their love for Maria. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church, 350 Gilmore Ave, in Winnipeg. Viewing begins at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow. Committal is to take place at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street after lunch. Pallbearers are: Taylor Minsky, Tori Strylytski, Alicia Strylytski, Michael Hirsch, Kailyn Hildebrandt, Kyle Hildebrandt, Bradley Minsky and Johnny Minski. Honorary Pallbearers are Lawrence and Lorna Senkiw. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Peace Lutheran Church. Dear Paul and family It is with such sadness to hear of Marie’s passing. She was such a wonderful, caring person and it was a privilege to call her my friend. Marie never complained. She had a very strong connection with a God who was by her side thru some very difficult times. Marie’s life was surrounded by her family whom she loved so dearly.
