JOSEPHINE (JESSIE) CHORNIUK (KISZENSKI)
Born: Sep 17, 1919
Date of Passing: Jun 09, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE (JESSIE) CHORNIUK (nee KISZENSKI) 1919 - 2018 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Jessie, at the age of 98, on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at River East Personal Care Home (REPCH). Left to cherish her memory are son Richard, daughter-in-law JoAnn, daughter Carol, son-in-law Frank Favoni, grandchildren, Dean (Kathi Grossart), Perry (Jennifer Riddell), Christopher (Deborah), Candra (Murray Hanstead), Tricia (Terry McMillan), and great-grandchildren, Trent, Joshua, Reed, Nathan, Grace, Ella and Callum, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Karol (1954) and Franciszka (1940), husband Steve (1991), sister Wanda (1990), and granddaughter Laini Chornick (1972). Mom was born on September 17, 1919, grew up on Pritchard Avenue and attended Aberdeen and Isaac Newton Schools. In 1934, her family moved from the North End to McIvor Avenue in North Kildonan, and here she met her "across the creek" neighbour turned sweetheart, Steve Chorniuk. In 1941, Jessie and Steve married and together raised their family and worked hard as market gardeners. In 2001, Mom moved to an apartment in Sarina Towers, where she enjoyed five wonderful years making new friends at tea parties, senior exercise groups and holiday gatherings. Nearly 12 years ago, Mom moved into REPCH and quickly gained the reputation of being a tease and a joker. Mom was an expert gardener, cook, and seamstress - her children and grandchildren often sported matching outfits that she made without the aid of a pattern. Mom also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, travelling, being a member of various seniors' clubs, aquacising, fishing, and wine-making. Although Mom enjoyed all her activities and the activities of her family, the dearest to her heart was spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the REPCH staff for the love and compassion they extended to Mom, with a special thank you to Dr. Haligowski for his wonderful care. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dean Favoni, Perry Favoni and Chris Chornick, great-grandsons, Trent Favoni-Grossart, Joshua Chornick and Nathan Chornick. Honorary pallbearers will be Candra Hanstead and Tricia McMillan. A Celebration of Life, officiated by Fr. Ted Czelen, will be held on Friday, June 15 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, 361 Burrows Ave. with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery on McIvor Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, 361 Burrows Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 1Z9. Be at Peace Mom - Nanny Love You Always!! E.J.Coutu & Co. I only learnt of Jessie's ("Mrs. Chorniuk" to me as I was growing up) very recently. I grew up on McIvor Avenue and went to River East Collegiate a few years behind her kids, Richard and Carol, and also knew Frankie Favoni. Both Jessie and her husband Steve were kind to me and it was a privilege to have known them. - Posted by: Karl Pfeifer (Neighbor, from across the road and across the creek, now a retired professor living in Melbourne, Au) on: Apr 11, 2020
