BETTY JEAN MCMAHON (nee FERNSTROM) Betty passed away peacefully in her 90th year, surrounded by her loving family, on June 11, 2018 at Deer Lodge Centre. She is survived by her son Ken (Wendy), son Doug (Cheryl), daughter Laureen (Dave) Johnson, and grandchildren, Shannon, Brendon, Kelsey, Owen and Lacey. She is also survived by her sister Irene Wray, and brother-in-law Don McMahon. She was predeceased by her husband James, son Ricky, brother Harold, and parents, Barry and Lena Fernstrom. Betty was born November 19, 1928 and grew up in the Morse Place area. Mom then went to Success Business College working at a variety of businesses in clerical positions and later in the food services industry over the years. She married James McMahon in 1955 and they were married for 54 years, until his passing in 2009. They lived and raised their family in the St. Vital area of Winnipeg. Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She was the rock of our family and was always there for us. Her family dinners were something to behold. Mom had a love of dogs. We always had a dog growing up and she always had four legged companions through her senior years. A special thanks to the staff of Deer Lodge Centre for their wonderful care over the past few years. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal memorial service. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Deer Lodge Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

My sincere condolences to Betty's family and apologies for the delay in corresponding my sympathy at your loss that I have just learned of. While I only recall a few visits to Vancouver by my uncle Barry and Auntie Lena while I was young, I so loved their stories of growing up on the prairies. I especially loved how happy it made my mom, Cora, to see her dear brother and family. I hope your grief is short but your memories long with the wonderful life that Betty enjoyed. Family was everything to her and I'm sure that she took a hug from each of you to her final rest. With love and sympathy to all, Karen Mullins - Posted by: Karen Mullins (Cousin) on: Oct 12, 2018
