HILDA LUDMILLA JOHNSON (nee SIHL) July 5, 1924 - January 17, 2018 Hilda passed away at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her mother Erna Anna Runzer, stepfather Fred Runzer, husband Albert Johnson and stepsiblings, Irene and Roy. Hilda is survived by stepsiblings, Ron Runzer of Winnipeg and Margaret Trecartin of New Brunswick; daughters, Pat Cochrane and Gay Kirby (John); grandchildren, Albert, Jonathon and Elizabeth and great-grandchildren, Quinn, Beckett, Lincoln and Jasminka. Hilda grew up in Lettonia, MB. She attended Newcombe School where she met Albert whom she later married. Hilda spoke of her love as a child of running through the blueberry hills, picking the five wild fruits for winter canning. Hilda and Albert built a home and raised their family in St. Vital and at their log cabin in Lettonia. Hilda worked at the post office, St. Amant Centre and Eaton's, however her focus was family. She navigated summer camping trips throughout North America. She excelled in knitting, sewing, crochet and needlework. Hilda and Albert greatly enjoyed square dancing. She loved cooking and requested that her extensive cookbook collection be given away at her memorial service. After Albert's death, Hilda built a home on Lettonia's lakeside. She said, "Every day is a new thumbprint of God." Thank you to the many healthcare workers and kind neighbours who made Mom's last years so comfortable. A special thank you to Dr. Papetti who brought humour, friendship and care to Hilda's life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Mom's favourite charity, the Winnipeg Humane Society, would be welcome. A celebration of her life will take place at the Lac du Bonnet Lutheran Church of the Cross, Thursday, July 5 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Lettonia Cemetery.
