AXEL TRUDERUNG 1946 - 2018 It is with deep sadness and sorrow that our family announces the passing of our husband, father and grandfather on July 3, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Diane, his children, Amanda, Karl (Naomi), Suzanne (Joey) and his grandchildren, April Dawn, Abigail, Victoria, Nathan, Keith and Justine. He was predeceased by his mother, Wally Eger, his in-laws and sister-in-law. Axel was born on February 18, 1946 in Rostock, Germany. At a young age he came to Canada with his mother and settled in Dinorwic, Ontario. A few years later he and his mother moved to Winnipeg. At Bird River bible camp, Dad accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and continued to trust the Lord to guide him through his life until his final days. In 1969, Dad married the love of his life, Diane (Mom) and from there they embarked on a life journey that would take them on many adventures. One of Dad's proudest moments was becoming the father of three children. In 1970, Dad graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. In 1981, while working full-time, he found the time to complete his Master's Degree in Engineering, at the University of Calgary. Dad always believed in lifelong learning. In his 60s he completed his Certificate in Adult Education at Red River College. Dad's career began at the Manitoba Highways Department. When a job opportunity arose, Dad moved his family to Calgary, Alberta. While in Calgary, he worked for the Federal Government, the City of Calgary, Pioneer Paving, Jager Homes and Gem Sod. Dad moved his family back to Winnipeg when he received a job offer from Solmundson Engineering. Dad was very pleased when he joined Red River College as a teacher in the Civil Engineering Department. His true love was mentoring others and he had the opportunity to teach for many years. When he would meet former students that he had taught, they told him what a significant impact that he had made in their lives and career choices. This made him extremely happy as he always wanted his students to be successful. Dad later continued his career at Red River College as the Co-op Co-ordinator in the Civil Engineering Department. This program was very successful and he managed to find more job positions than there were students in the program. Dad loved the great outdoors and his favourite times included hiking in the Badlands of Alberta, canoeing in Lake Moraine and searching for gemstones in an amethyst quarry near Thunder Bay. In his spare time, he loved to use his carpentry skills constructing furniture for the house including bunk beds, tables and chairs. He also carved some beautiful wood sculptures for our home. In later years, Dad and Mom spent countless hours walking in Bird's Hill Park, breathing in the clean, fresh air, listening to the birds singing and enjoying the solitude of nature. Growing up in a small town, Dad had an appreciation for nature and animals. Mom and Dad walked many miles in the Park, along with their cherished dogs, Freddy and then Teddy. In these last few months Teddy never left Dad's side, as he would lie on his bed to comfort him. You would often see tears in Teddy's eyes, as he sensed that Dad would soon be taking a journey. It was clear that his family was everything to Dad. He always encouraged his children and built up their self confidence. He always encouraged us and told us that we could do anything if we put our minds to it. Even in the darkest hours and the lowest points of his diagnosis, he still managed to teach us about strength, faith, love, hope and endurance. His unwavering strength over this last year was inspirational to us all, even in the most painful times. Your presence was so strong in our family Dad and that is why your loss is leaving a gaping hole in our hearts. We are sad that your cancer robbed you of more years but we are grateful for all of the wonderful memories that you created for our family. You were a kind and generous soul who was always optimistic and determined. We will miss your smile, the good advice you gave, the knowledge that you shared and the love that you gave your family. We will all miss you, especially your beloved dog Teddy. We love you. Until we meet again, sleep well. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. (private burial service). Flowers gratefully declined. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay, You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting, Until the very end, When a cure was not to be, So, He put His arms around you, And whispered, "Come to Me", So when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free of pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again, You didn't deserve what you went through, So He took you home to rest, God's garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best.
