RON LATTER
Born: Feb 17, 1937
Date of Passing: Jul 01, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRON LATTER On Canada Day, peacefully at home in his favourite chair, Ron passed away with Elaine by his side. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Elaine, daughters, Lori (Tom) and Janice (Wayne), grandchildren, Breanne, Brett and Nicholas Christofalos; Carly and Jenna Gair, brother and sister-in-law Marnie and Gord Stimpson and their family and "little brother" John Wichers (Barb). Also a wonderful group of friends, both the two and four legged kind!! He was predeceased by his parents, Ernie and Mae Latter and infant grandson Tyler Ronald Christofalos. An accredited assessor and appraiser (AAM, AACI, FRI) he worked for 30 years for the City of Winnipeg Land Surveys and Real Estate which later changed into a private career in appraisal and real estate. Always the handyman, he too turned this into a part-time vocation. Born February 17, 1937, Ron grew up in the West end of Winnipeg. His whole life changed in the summer of 1957 when he met the love of his life Elaine with those beautiful, sparkling blue, Irish eyes while at Grand Beach. For the next 61 years they were a force to be reckoned with - buying their home on Renfrew Street, raising their daughters and being a family. In 1993 Ron was full of pride; becoming a grandpa made his life complete. And it happened five times! Being home with his family in the city, at the lake or on his favourite running path were what made him the happiest. He enjoyed every summer of his life at the lake where everyone was welcomed. With his big grin, GPA, as his grandchildren referred to him, was very hands on being the taxi service, their biggest fan, and key sharer of all snacks. There were many adventures over the years - road trips where we would always get lost and almost starved - or big runs including many marathons in Manitoba and Minnesota with his most memorable being Seniors on the Run trek to Thompson, Manitoba. Actively involved in the running community for over 35 years, his passion of both Grand Beach and running resulted in his founding of the Grand Beach Sun Run where he served as race director for 16 years. Ron enjoyed plenty winter getaways with Elaine to Hawaii, Mexico, Texas, Florida and Victoria where they met many new friends, but the best trip was when he and Elaine went with their children and grandchildren to Florida - what fun we had. Heartfelt thanks to the home and palliative care team especially Bien, Lori, Adrien, Cathy, Ramas and Ricardo - we could not have done it without you. Please join us in a celebration of Ron's life at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave. at 11:00 a.m. July 17, 2018. Summer casual attire is welcomed. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully appreciated to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation Run2Believe in support of cardiac patient care, C1026-409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, R2H 2A6. Ron, Dad and GPA - You finished your last marathon your way - Love you always.

I have such fond memories of Ron during the winters spent at Costa Vallarta in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Ron always had a smile and a great story. My favorite was about his participation in a choir at school as a young lad. (I learned that Canadian phrase from Ron). His singing ability was of such low quality that the choir director instructed him just to mouth the words and not to sing. Ron said his mother was so pleased with his performance and she could pick out his voice. Elaine, my thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Mrs. Latter, Lori & Janice, I am so sorry that your husband & father has passed. I think of all the years growing up on Renfrew with all of you. Spending time at Grand Beach with all of you. The time your parents hosted a surprise 25th anniversary party for my parents in you basement. And that awful gold nude "The Kiss" statue that my parents, the Latters and the Niemans passed around in their gag gift exchange each Xmas! Janice, I remember all the fun we had in Hawaii with your Mom & Dad and my parents. Mr. Latter had a great sense of humour and was always helpful and approachable. I have nothing but good memories of all our families thru all these years! Love Elaine Hutton - Posted by: Elaine Hutton (Friend of the family) on: Jul 07, 2018

I remember Ron from the Assessment Department when we both worked there back in the 60's. Always pleasant with a smile for everyone. He also got to know my husband Larry when they did their walks at the Rehfit Centre in 2002. My sincere condolences to you all. - Posted by: Carol Lyons (co-worker) on: Jul 07, 2018

We will never forget the fun times we had with our friends at After Five Running Club, at Latters’ place during the Grand Beach Sun Runs and many other events. Ron was a great sport and always happy to help out with organization, helping other members and being a friend to all. He was “forever young”! Our sincerest condolences to the family at this difficult time. John Willcock Ginny Brown Sandy Hook, MB - Posted by: Ginny & John Brown/Willcock (Running friends) on: Jul 07, 2018
