PHYLLIS ANN BRYSON (nee SMYE) We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Phyllis Ann Bryson, on Friday, June 29, at Riverview Health Centre after a brief battle with colon cancer. She was in a coma for her final 12 hours of life, surrounded by family and friends. Mom (Dolly) was born in Winnipeg on December 30, 1928 to Phyllis Alberta and Harold Clifford Smye. She met and married the love of her life Robert Mervyn Bryson on April 17, 1946 and celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this year in her hospital room. Mom had seven children but was predeceased by her son Robert Michael. She is survived by her husband Bob and children, Paula, Leigh (Bob), Roberta, Marcia (Tracy), Brent (Lori) and Tracy. She was grandmother to 14 and great-grandmother to nine. She was particularly close to grandson Jordan who she helped to raise and who was a major support to his grandma during her illness. Mom also remained close to her niece Maureen of White Rock and nephew Johnny of Toronto, as well as numerous friends, many of whom she'd known since her 20s and 30s. Aside from raising children, Mom loved to entertain, to dance, to sing and to read. Dad was a piano and bass player and spent most weekend nights playing lounges and legions across Winnipeg. For many years Mom was the featured singer with the dad's band using her stage name Phyllis Brooks. For the past 26 years, Mom and Dad have lived in the Silverview Estates apartments where Mom was the librarian and a constant participant in the weekly Stitch 'n' Bitch group and the exercise class. She formed many lasting friendships there. Cremation has taken place and at Mom's request, there will not be a service. If you want to do something to remember Mom, find a recording of "The Girl from Ipanema", "I Left my Heart in San Francisco" or "September in the Rain" and hum along. That's what she'd be doing. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com
