Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE DOERKSEN (nee FUNK) 1937 - 2018 After a brief battle with cancer, Mom passed away at Riverview Health Centre on Sunday, July 8, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bernie, children: Tyrone (Patsy), Heather (Brian), Yvonne (Ken), Stewart (Kathy) and Tracy (Greg), grandchildren: Tricia, Chris, Trent, Sean, Wade, Dean, Dustin, Daniel, Craig, Corey, Randi, Kenny, Michelle, David, Jennifer, Nicole and Trevor, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mom set her eye on the cute town hockey star without knowing what she was getting herself into, but she was able to handle it. Mom was very involved in helping others through sponsorship and counselling. She spent countless hours on the phone helping people on their journey. Aside from being an active mother and grandmother, she also had an impact on other peoples lives in her job as a vision therapist. Mom was a people person but still enjoyed her solitude. Mom's faith carried her through and she always said, "no doom and gloom." Mom ended her life in the most positive way. She had an opportunity to express her love and she was grateful for that. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue with interment and reception to follow. Flowers gratefully declined. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom's passing Heather, Yvonne, Stewart, Tracy and Ty. She was very special to me and I’m so glad that Tricia and I spent a nice afternoon together a few years back. There aren't many friends you can say changed your life, but Kathy did that for me. She meant the world to me for over 30 years, always ready to listen and share her wisdom and grace. Her marriage to Bernie was an inspiration to my late husband, Alan, and I and helped us immensely. I will miss her so much.
