Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN HENRY MITCHELL Surrounded by family, John Henry Mitchell passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 95 years. John was born in Winnipeg. He is survived by his daughter Freda (Lennard) of Winnipeg, grandson Nolan of Winnipeg, brother Stanley of Vancouver and nephews and nieces across the country. He was predeceased by his sons, John of Toronto and Holden of Vancouver, his parents, Ida and Harry, his second wife Verna and first wife Freda, sisters, Zoe, Grace and Dorothy and brothers, Teddy and Harold. John was a great storyteller with a sharp/amazing memory. He was an avid cyclist up until age 94 and was probably one of the first to ride in the winter. He will always be remembered for his unique individualism, sense of humour, creativity and innovation. He will be sadly missed by his family. John enlisted in the Canadian Army at Sudbury, Ontario in December, 1942, joining the Lincoln and Welland Regiment; received his training at Camp Borden, serving in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe as a private for three years. He was proud of his service to the country during the Second World War. On his return home he worked in a variety of capacities with the Canadian National Railway and VIA Rail. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held for family and close friends at Korban Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. In keeping with his wishes, flowers are gratefully declined.
