BENJAMIN THOMAS (SVEN) SVEINSON It is with heart-filled sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Thomas Sveinson on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the age of 25 years. Ben will be forever remembered as a kind, tender-hearted guy with a witty sense of humour, always able to make those around him smile. Ben was a graduate of Miles Mac Collegiate and a member of the high school hockey team. He later went on to play with the Winnipeg Blues Hockey Club and assisted his team in winning the Manitoba Junior Hockey Championship in 2014. From here Ben would go on to continue his love for hockey by playing for Lindenwoods University in Illinois and for Portage College in Lac La Biche, Alberta. Ben loved fishing and spent weekends out in the Whiteshell with his best friend Kam Nault and the Nault family. He was always in search of that one "big jack"! Ben also loved a good, funny movie, music and was learning how to play guitar. At the time of his passing Ben was a student at Red River College and was working for Mountain Construction Inc. Left to cherish his memory are his father Jeff Sveinson (Kathy Grenkow), mother Melanie Caldwell (Kevin Neubauer), grandparents, Ben and Millie Sveinson, Robert and Donna Fabbri, Ralph and Dorothy Caldwell; his siblings, Steffan, Bret, Vincent, Taylor and Chloe, along with stepsisters, Sarah, Jessica and Katelyn; his cousin Austin Sveinson who was more like a brother, his best friend Kam Nault and all of the Nault family; his aunt Bonnie Ambrose, uncle Wayne Sveinson, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins as well as all of his friends near and far. A memorial is being held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Bronx Park Community Centre located at 720 Henderson Hwy. in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Sports Concussion Research Fund in his honour. www.tgwhf.ca/tribute or phone (416)603-5300. Skate on "Sven", you touched everyone who knew you, you are forever loved. Rest in Peace. Ken Loehmer Funeral Services 204-886-0404

  • My heart is broken, I'm filled with sorrow for the entire family. I remember when Ben was born, the pride of the family! I think Ben was the 2nd baby I had ever held in my life, I remember thinking it was so cool that my best buddy was an auntie when we were still so young. I will always remember Ben's quiet demeanor and kind ways, when I saw him, he always made a point of making conversation and asking how I was, such rare qualities in many youth. One day, your memories will serve to provide you warmth and comfort. Ben will always be with you and his spirit will continue to guide you. Prayers and much love are with you all. - Posted by: Laurel Cumming (Longtime family friend) on: Jul 18, 2018

  • The hockey community has lost another hard working soldier at a young age. Ben, you're the guy that brought me up when I was down, made me laugh when I needed to laugh, and smartened me up when I was being stupid, and had my back no matter what on and off the ice. I will always remember our talks on the bus, and the way you opened my mind up my man, you're going to be truly forgotten, love yah kid. To the Sveinson family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and everyone around you guys, words can't describe how hard this must be, just know your son was one of a kind and made a big impact on me in a short time, all the best!! - Posted by: Jesse Parker (Teammate at Portage University) on: Jul 16, 2018
