ROBERT HORTA With heavy hearts, surrounded by his loving family, Robert passed away at Deer Lodge Centre on May 17, 2018. Bob was born in Rovno, Poland on August 30, 1932. He came to Canada in 1951 settling in Minitonis with his parents and brothers. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Mary Veseli and Ferdinand Horta, and brothers, Vladimir, Joseph and Milton. He leaves to mourn his wife Nadia (nee Yanchuk), children, Fredrick and Donnie (Katherine), grandson Matthew, beloved niece and nephews, Joanne Okis, Wally (Karen) and Harvey (Francine). Bob began his career in 1951 working for Sawatzky Construction before partnering with Ed Shell in 1964 to form Sargent Construction. Their projects included the Courts of St. James, Polo Park Towers and Tawani Towers. In the last 17 years of his career, Bob managed construction and renovation projects at the Hotel Fort Garry including Ten Spa, Yoga Public and complete restoration of the seventh floor for which he received a Heritage Winnipeg Award in 2001. Bob was a kind, dedicated and hard-working man. He loved animals, travelling with his family, golfing, fishing and watching his grandson play hockey. He will be missed and loved forever. Bob's family would like to thank the staff in Tower 7 at Deer Lodge Centre for their compassionate care during Bob's final months. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation are welcomed.
