Auntie Joyce was a favorite aunt, from the time when I was a little girl and she would send me trinkets and little gifts from far-away Chicago to when I visited with her when I became an adult. She always kept in touch and was always cheerful in spite of her health challenges. She had a fantastic sense of humor! Some of my earliest memories of extended family include supper at her house with uncle Bill pitching supper rolls or a spoonful of mashed potatoes down the length of the dinner table and Auntie Joyce trying to maintain some calm and decorum at the table. A happy memory was picking raspberries at Grandma Finnson's when I was very young. I am thankful that she got to meet my daughter Meaghan when she was only 7 years old when we visited Winnipeg. Meaghan was so delighted with how Auntie Joyce treated her as being special and she still remembers being allowed to type away at her typewriter and how she had quite a serious discussion about the newly minted coins Meaghan had received when we visited the mint! Auntie Joyce always made a person feel as if they were the most important person in the world, paying close attention to everything you had to say, and she was always interested in what was happening in your life. She was a strong woman and a good role model, and I looked up to her. She was a wonderful lady and she will be missed. - Posted by: Linda Dyck (niece) on: Jul 29, 2018
