JACOBUS (JACK) LAMMENS 1931 - 2018 Paul Guenette announces with great sorrow the passing of his good friend, Jacobus (Jack) Lammens, on June 25, 2018. Jack came to Canada in 1954 with his best friend, Guy Simonis from Holland, after they served in Dutch Military Air Force. Police with NATO in Fountainebleau, France. He and Guy along with Guy's wife, Ina, arrived in Halifax in 1954 where they boarded a train for Winnipeg, a Canadian city they had picked to be "in the middle" so they could decide whether to find their future in either Eastern or Western Canada. They stayed in Winnipeg, found humble accommodations and, within days, obtained employment. Jack's first job was flipping hamburgers for Salisbury House. After that he found employment with Eaton's as a refrigerator salesman. He turned out to be one of their best and worked his way up to Store Manager first in Brandon's store and then the new Eaton's outlet in St.Vital and finished his Eaton's career at Winnipeg's Polo Park store. Early in his career with Eaton's he met his wife Beryl at a company social function. They were an active couple for nearly 60 years. In Winnipeg he made many friends within Rotary as well as the sailing communities in both Lake of the Woods and Lake Winnipeg. He was a great presence at the yacht clubs in both locations. He deeply involved himself in organizing the sailing competitions at the 1967 Pan American Games. He was considered a world class sailor. He and his friends, Guy and Bruce Wardrope formed a jazz trio that entertained friend and families for many years. In the course of many years he enjoyed playing squash both in Winnipeg and West coast where he made many friends. His passing was preceded by his son Peter and his wife Beryl. He leaves a daughter Leta as well as two grandchildren, Elliot and Emmitt. Jack is credited with many achievements yet he kept a low profile, as was his way. He will be sadly missed by many.
