JEAN HOPPER It is with sadness that the family of Jean (Babe) Margaret (nee Young) Hopper announce her passing on July 21, 2018 in Nanaimo, BC. She is survived by her three sons, Michael (Yvonne) of Oak Bluff, MB; Peter of Victoria, BC; and Patrick (Dianne) of Burnaby, BC; as well as by her two cherished grandsons, Connor and Kegan, her stepgranddaughters, Monica and Jennifer, her brother Gerald (Phyllis) Young of Parksville, BC; and sister Donna Norell of Winnipeg, MB and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Jean was predeceased by her husband Louis Francis Hopper, her mother Eva Margaret Volland, her father Andrew McDonald Young, and stepfather William Robert Volland. Jean was born in Minnedosa, MB on February 1, 1935, the youngest of three children. She met her husband Louis while she was working as a civilian for the Department of National Defence. They were married on September 8, 1956 and lived in Manitoba, Quebec and Ontario before returning to live in Winnipeg in 1974. Jean worked for Employment and Immigration and upon retiring in 1996, she and Louis moved to Nanaimo where she resided at the time of her passing. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel in Nanaimo at 2:00 p.m. on August 5, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or your local Humane Society or SPCA.

  • My deepest condolences to Jean's family. She was so very kind to my sister & I when our Aunt, Kay Cameron, passed. I have stayed in touch with her since then & truly enjoyed communicating with her - she was a wonderful person & I know will be greatly missed.
