Date of Passing: Jul 25, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) STEWART MCKENZIE It is with sadness that we announce the death of Robert Stewart McKenzie on July 25, 2018, at age 79. Bob will be missed by his children, Rob (Cinzia Foglietta), Ian (Maninder Kaur) and Francine (Michael Szonyi); grandchildren, McKenzie, Bobby, Katie and Kevin; sister Barbara; his former wife Denise, with whom he remained good friends; and his partner Donna Armstrong and her family. Bob was born on September 19, 1938 in Carman, Manitoba. His parents were Bert and Kay McKenzie. Bob had a successful law practice in Carman for 37 years. Public service was an important part of his life. He served as mayor for seven and a half years. He helped create the Boyne River Diversion, which kept the town flood-free for decades, and the Boyne Tower and Lodge, a retirement and nursing home. He read widely, loved travel and the outdoors, and followed politics and the stock market closely. In 2010, he moved to Ottawa where he appreciated the fellowship he found at the Britannia United Church. A memorial service will be held at Britannia United Church in the fall. Condolences may be placed online at www.HarrisFuneralHome.ca

He was wonderful person who always helped everyone out. I was lucky to have him around when I was growing up. He was a very patient man who’s passion always shined through. My sympathies go out to the family...the world has lost a great man. JP - Posted by: Jean-Paul Beaubien (Friend) on: Nov 01, 2018

We are sad to think we won’t see Bob again. Carman and Canada has lost a great citizen who quietly and effectively got things done. A good conversationalist if you caught him before he snuck away. A good neighbour and coffee companion with a sense of humour. It has been our great honour to call Bob our friend. Our deepest sympathy Denise, Robbie, Ian and Francine and families. - Posted by: Chip and Lorraine Hand (Friend) on: Aug 19, 2018

I first moved back to Winnipeg where I had attended law school at Robson Hall and articled for Thompson Dorfman Sweatman after my marriage in Toronto to D'Arcy McCaffrey Q.C. That was in May, 1983. D'Arcy had been doing a great deal of trial work in Toronto, and that is where D'Arcy and I met and got to know each other over a period of three years. However, I had only been to Winnipeg once during that time, at Christmas 1982, when he gave me an engagement ring and introduced me to his mother, brother, sister, and law partners at what was then Taylor McCaffrey. In May, Bob Mckenzie came in from Carmen and stayed with us. He was one of my husband's dearest friends. He was a very personable and caring person. He came in most weekends and had been in the habit of staying with McCaffrey so of course, I made him welcome. He was the mayor of Carmen at the time. I think that he and McCaffrey had been law school classmates. I have very fond memories of Bob McKenzie. Shelley G.Mitchell, lawyer. - Posted by: Shelley Mitchell (Friend) on: Aug 04, 2018
