Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANASTASIA BUZUNIS March 2, 1925 - August 5, 2018 Anastasia Ginakes Buzunis left her family with memories of laughter, joy, a passion for the arts, travelling, cooking, entertaining, her children, opera, generosity and kindness to everyone. It is hard to imagine a world without her. Born in Fargo, North Dakota to parents, Arconda and Andrew Ginakes. To carry on her legacy are her children: Theodore (Karen) of Winnipeg, Andrea of Phoenix, AZ, Constantine of San Diego, CA, Timothy (Kerry) of Winnipeg and Antonia Killebrew of Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren: Kyle, Andrea, Eric Killebrew, Jarrett Mack, and Victoria Zuke. Predeceased by her loving husband Peter and her parents, brother Demos A. Ginakes, Mary (Bota) Bisbecos and cousin Jimmy Ginakes, with whom she shared a special bond. Upon graduation, Ann pursued her passion for opera at McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, MN. Her life unexpectedly changed course while visiting Winnipeg with her Aunt Aphrodite Ginakes, when she met her future husband Peter Buzunis while walking down Portage Avenue. They were the first couple married in Winnipeg at the Greek House, by a Greek Orthodox Priest on August 19, 1945. Ann was an active member in the American Women's Club, a past President of the Daughters of Penelope and Ladies of Philoptochos of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Ann sought no acclaim. Instead her devotion to family and friends created an atmosphere of laughter, joy and celebration. She was quick with a smile and always the last to leave a party. "Beautiful, gorgeous and good looking" was how she greeted and left you. Everyone simply wanted to be with her. Prayers will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, August 8 at 7:30 p.m. Services to honour Ann's life will take place at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue in Winnipeg on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens with reception to follow at Pony Corral, Pier 7, 1700 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg. Pallbearers are George Buzunis, Peter P. Ginakes, Dimos F. Ginakes, Jarrett Mack, Richard Nickel and Eric Killebrew Jr. All Ann's cousins, too numerous to mention, should consider themselves honorary pallbearers. The family would like to thank all the staff at West Park Manor for the loving care provided to our mother over the last several years. Flowers are gratefully declined, should you wish, donations in Ann's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Ann, as we knew her, first joined the American Women's Club in 1956. Although I didn't know her very well, I do remember her fondly as a fun-loving person who cared deeply about her family. I offer my condolences to all of you at this most difficult time. - Posted by: Dorcas Windsor (Fellow member of the American Women's Club) on: Aug 17, 2018

When I was very young Anne and Helen Effos, her sister-in-law kindly taught me how to do the tsamiko at the old Greek House on Edmonton Street. Annie was always filled with life and was so kind to many people. She disliked gossip and could always find kind words to say to others. I have many fine memories of her singing in the choir at St. Demetrios with me and at various functions. She was a "life force" and a beacon to many people whom she knew and cared for. Her memories will be eternal with many of us whose life she touched with her velvet hand. With loving thoughts Jim Pappas - Posted by: Jim Pappas (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2018

Nia and Family - my deepest condolences on the loss of your amazing Mom. I have very fond memories of weekends at your house; your Mom's amazing Lemon Greek Potatoes; visiting the Thunderbird and Nick's Inn. Your Mom was always taking care of us, feeding us, and singing all around the house! She will be deeply missed I'm sure. Sincerely, Brigitte - Posted by: Brigitte Fisher (nee: Suszko) (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2018
