Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERVINE DANIEL DYCK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ervine on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 following a brief battle with lung cancer. Ervine was born in Morris, Manitoba on March 31, 1944. He spent his formative years in Lowe Farm, Manitoba. In 1963 Ervine met the love of his life, Amaryllis in Horndean, Manitoba. They were married November 7, 1964 and had two children Tracy and Robert. Ervine began his working life as a telegraph operator and later station agent with the Canadian National Railway. This was a job that shaped his life as he worked in many small towns in Manitoba and Saskatchewan where he met many wonderful people. His love of the railway continued throughout his life. He travelled many times to the west coast and the east coast always making friends and enjoying his time on the rails. Ervine's later career involved being branch manager at Steel Brothers Canada, later Brock White - a position he held for over 30 years. Ervine later became property manager for Active Management and finally building manager at Flynn Group of Companies. Ervine leaves behind Amaryllis, his wife of 54 years, his two children, Tracy (John) and Robert (Carla), and his three beloved grandchildren, Lane, Adam and Ben, as well as his beloved dogs, Maddie an Bernie. He is also survived by his sister Joyce, his brother Alvin, his sisters-in-law, Heather (Remo), Naomi (Harold) and Gloria (Peter), brothers-in-law, Dan (Chris), Gladwyn and James (Lorraine), and numerous nieces and nephews. Ervine was predeceased by his parents, and by his great friend and brother-in-law John Nickel. Ervine was a kind, compassionate, generous, gentle soul who left a mark on everyone he met. His spirit resides in all of us who love him. We will miss his good humour and the political debates as well as his steadfast love. A celebration of Ervine's life will be held at his favourite watering hole, the St. Norbert Hotel in Winnipeg, in October. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to a Humane Society of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

My wife Janice and I send our sincere condolences to Barb and family, so sorry for your loss. Erv and I go way back, growing up together with many family visits. Erv started his career as operator and station agent along with his good friend Ben Penner. I remember listening to their tales of adventure, and remember thinking it was an interesting way to make some money and see our country, as kids we never traveled much. In 1963, I also hired on with CNR, and from then on whenever we met, we compared tales of our travel and job related experiences, often challenging each other by tapping out messages in Morse Code, we had many, many fun times, great memories. Later Erv got tired of the constant moving, mainly because his girl, Barb; she was more important to him than the railroad lifestyle. I remember standing up for Erv and Barb at their wedding, another fond memory. Well, Erv settled down in Winnipeg and started a long and successful career with a steep company. Sorry to say, we grew apart, I continued on railroading and moving a lot. Whenever our paths crossed in the future, I always remember Erv still talking about railroading, he never lost his fondness for the rails. Signing off in Morse Code (_.._ ...-.) 93, Rest In Peace. - Posted by: John Wiebe (First Cousin) on: Aug 17, 2018

I have fond memories of Erv. He was always one of the first to greet me at family functions and ask how I was and how our family was doing. He truly was a gentle and kind soul and he is missed... - Posted by: Chris Nickel (sister-in-law) on: Aug 17, 2018
